Ray A while back we were talking about p90's. Actually about affordable p90 equipped guitars. And one guitar that was mentioned was a Squier. Now this guitar had separate vol/tone controls for each pickup. It may be necessary I dont know but I dont like it. Just a simple reason becasue I dont want to be darting around adjusting knobs and all when I'm supposed to be playing guitar. So I want to know if it is pretty simple to combine into a single volume and a single tone control for both pickups. I guess there are places to go and look but if anyone here has done this sort of thing or knows how to tackle it please give me a pointer or two. BTW it isnt a Squier I want to do this on - it's a hollowbody Ibanez.
AlanRatcliffe Yes it's easy to do. The current wiring setup (individual volume and tones), the pickups go to the controls, then from there to the selector switch (pickups > controls > selector > jack). To do what you want (master volume and tone), you just reverse the switch and controls (pickups > selector > controls > jack), and only use one volume and tone. Similarly, if you want one volume and individual tones, the tones go before the switch and the volume goes after. Or for individual volumes and master tone, the volumes before the switch, the tone after. In short: individual controls go between the pickups and the switch. Master controls go between the switch and jack. Easy to work out if you just remember that the switch combines the pickups. Diagram on request. ?
Skywalker Diagram on request. Yes please ? I was thinking of doing something similar a few days ago with my Les pauls after buying new pots and input jacks. All I want is 2 volumes and master tone but got frustrated trying to figure it out.

Gearhead When I clicked on this topic I was sorta expecting discussion on wiring the wiper and the non-ground side of the volume the other way around, to get more effect of rolling off the volume. Saw MikeM wiring up his LP that way this weekend which got us discussing the thing. I am not sure I think it is cool - although the ends would seem to justify the means. Comments anyone?
MikeM On this topic, I am not quite torn. I think I'm actually going to swap over as I will be using a tone pot to darken things up - and this particular guitar is dark already. Just chiming in on a little OT ?
