I love their take on it but haven't heard anything else of theirs that really makes me tingle. Little lackluster if you ask me.

Just finished watching DVD. Awesome. Some classic one-liners from Keith / Keef. Turns to Ron Wood as he walks away from an excruciating pre-show meet & greet with Bill and Hilary Clinton AND Bill's 11 year old nephew AND Hilary's mom >☹ and says under his breath: "Hey, Clinton, I'm Bushed" ?

Jack White was just plain star struck and came of like a dweeb [chewing gum while singing with the Stones??], whereas Christina Aguilera (believe it or not) gave a great vocal performance and strutted with Jagger as if she'd been doing it for years. Held her own IMHO.

Classic blues perfromance with Buddy Guy called "Champagne and Reefer" is worth price of admission alone. Ends with Keith embarrassing Buddy at end of song by giving him his guitar (looked like a Guild Starfire) and saying: "Its yours". Buddy stands on stage with two guitars while Keith's roady is off to collect his axe for the next song. Real rock 'n roll moment.

Slight update. Just read this Keith quote regarding Aguilera's performance: "This girl came out and I was like, 'Who is that?' I had no idea. I'm still not sure who that is. She can sing, though. And she looked good." :D And here's a vidcap of the scene where they play with Buddy Guy. Keith's holding the guitar he would give away a few minutes later in homage to the man. [img][/img] Riaan C

I have a different take on this. This DVD just confirmed my conviction that whilst they made some great music a while back, these days the Stones suck and don't care that they suck. Wood and Richards are just jokes these days - but hey! They're Rolling Stones so they can get away with it. Jagger is now a total self-parody.

Charlie's still good and takes things seriously. Darrell Jones ensures that the rhythm section is solid.

The Stones made some compelling music. They are now surviving on their reputation as hell-raisers and sex gods. Which is a bit undignified at their age.

I was also underwhelmed with this. Jagger and Watts were pretty together, but Keith... The only thing he did that captured me was the bit (might have been an extra) where he's sitting with an acoustic and just messing around during a soundcheck. He's mostly too stoned to give a decent performance.

Jagger was still impressive, IMO. He's never been the greatest vocalist, but he's still a good performer.

Richards CAN play (or could). He may have arthritis or some other injury or wear or tear that impedes his playing now. I love the classic Stones albums, but I wouldn't go to the end of my street to see them playing now - and not just because I don't enjoy shows in big stadiums. IMO Ron Wood was a better bass player than a guitarist.

The best guitarist the Stones ever had was Mick Taylor.

I found this outtake from the movie guys, which is just shocking. I'm not even gonna try to describe it. ☹

Unreleased footage fom the Scorsese documentary "Shine a light" shows the ageing rockers laboring drunkenly over one of the worst live performances in rock history at the London 02 Arena. The show culminated with Keith Richards attempting an enthusiatic but innaccurate rendition of a favourite Christmas carol.

I'm not sure if this website is perhaps a parody site and someone has overdubbed a track onto legit video as a joke. If not, how could management, tour staff, the other Stones for goodness sake, allow Keef to embarrass himself like this for what must certainly be the worst 1:44 of live performance in any genre at any level? Does anybody know whether this is legit?

Looks fake to me, and with regards to the concert, sure they are not on top form anymore, but it's fairly decent in my book. Maybe I am just biased because I am such a big fan. I feel that just the fact that they are still up there, and sound fairly decent, at their age, is worth applause. Anywhoo, stuff you all, STONES RULE! ?

Totally bogus, The video is completely out of sink vocal and guitar to the soundtrack, kief is playing a nylon acoustic, soundtrack is electric, probably some stupid *ss-wipe's attempt at humour

If I can just add to this that imho both views are true to me:
- the Stones are still very good;
- they should have quit while they were ahead.
As much as I enjoyed seeing them live recently (well recently when measured in Stones time, '04) and in the Scorsese thing, I do feel that they do not create new things anymore. In fact the Scorsese thing goes back to the roots more than they used to do.

About Keith: he comments in the movie that he thinks he's not much of a guitarist and 'neither is Ronnie'. He then goes on by saying that the two of them are better together than any one of the top guitarists. I would agree; I've actually seen Wood finish a solo Richards was doing because the latter was more interested in some girl than in finishing the solo he started. Would not have believed it if I had not seen it myself.

BTW&offtopic: the 'argument' scene in the Chuck Berry tribute DVD shows how Berry shows Richards how to play an intro riff that he says Keith has always been covering wrongly. Richards argues that he's been doing it like that for 25 years and nobody's ever complained, only to get 'then you've played it wrong for 25 years'. Great scene, a reminder that actually the Stones started out just doing so-so white covers of superb black music. Just compare King Bee by the Stones to the Muddy Waters version.

It's exactly that what struck me most about Shine A Light: the guitar play has become a lot better over time. They did really invent the two-interacting-guitars-in-one-band thing and it still is there. Even though they look undead.

Eina! I dig the Stones so much. Go out and buy the DVD and 'POW!'. Mick Jagger - sad, Keith Richard - pitiful, Ron Wood - OK but not hot. Charlie - still steady and reliable. Are these rock icons? Are these okes taking money for these performances? I've gotto be honest but a few years back when they came to SA I never went to see them because I didnt want to be disappointed. Some people I know went and said it was lekka. Others told me I saved money wisely.
