Vox AD 30 VT

About to 'trade in' my trusty Peavey Renown 400 so that I can buy a Vox AD30VT, and just want some opinions.

Is the AD30 loud enough for jamming with drums? As far as sound goes I've heard very little negative comments. Any considerations? This is my first foray into anything tube-related.

then, secondly, anyone have an AD30VT that they want to get rid of? ?

Should be more than loud enough. I have an AD50VT-XL, and it sits with the attenuator on the back at about halfway in our practice room, and then the master volume is usually not turned up full either (my band-mates are not as sold on crazy guitar tones as I am) ?

I'm quite happy with mine. Until I can splurge on the Fender gear I want, it will do the job, and the built-in effects are OK as well (less pedals to buy).

sometimes in life we make silly decisions we regret later an selling my Vox AD15VT is one of those. Luckily a bandmate bought it so i still get to utilise it at times.
These amps are plenty loud and the 30 version should be loud enough to cut through the din of most but the lunatic fringe of drummers .

Excellently prices as well ,i think new you could prolly pick one up for 3k if you lean on the salesman a bit, although i think thats on the VT which is the latest incarnation of the AD range.

u wont be sorry buying one of these ..

Just curious, why are you selling the Peavey to get a vox? Just wondering what the appeal of the vox is over the peavey?

I had an AD30VT, sold it, probably a dumb decision, coz that amp was cool. However, that peavey of yours looks kiff too!

The peavey is definitely a cool amp, 210 watts of power and whatnot, but its sound is a bit 'flat'. Nice and bright and clear and LOUD, but no warmth to the tone, and little versatility. If I was gigging, and had high quality effects pedals, I would have kept this amp, at least as a backup.

Also, it's big and heavy as hell. I spend 95% of my guitar time playing in my room and 5% jamming with friends, neither of which benefit from having a 30kg 210watt amp.

I'm getting the Vox because its tone is better (or should be, according to what I've researched), and it's a bit more versatile for mucking about, but still big enough for jamming. And it's a hybrid as opposed to pure solid state. It was still quite a difficult decision, the Peavey is a very rare amp it seems and I think I underpriced it by quite a fair amount, but I'm getting more than I paid for it (10 years ago) and enough to upgrade so that's ok.

Ahh, that is some good reasoning!

Because of that, i give you thumbs up for the vox! They are great sounding amps with a lot of versatility.

So, over the weekend I picked up my 'new' Vox AD 50 VT, bought from gumtree in as-new condition for R3000. The person I originally wanted to buy it from flaked due to getting a better offer but i was able to find another one. So far I really, really love the amp... First time that I'm playing on something with a valve (even though it is a hybrid) and man... Even my girlfriend commented on how much 'creamier' the tone is. Looking forward to getting into a jam room and really cranking it up.

Now... Time to start saving for my Epi LP ?
