Hey everyone,
I'm new around these parts ?
I am a relative noob to the pedal business, but I am looking at purchasing a decent multi effect pedal to start experimenting with, to get more sounds. So I would just like to try find out more about this pedal. I have read some reviews and it seems to be decent, but has anyone here had experience with this model? (I trust South Africans more ? heheh)
Also does anyone have any idea on the local pricing for this pedal? Like everything I buy it must be good bang for buck!

I have a BOSS ME-50 pedal.. its been really great for me. But I've never used any other pedals so I don't have anything to compare it to. I think you pretty much can't go wrong with BOSS. The only gripe I have with mine is that there is a slight delay when changing patches. This can get annoying when jamming with mates etc, but its not that bad.
I think it will be a good pedal to start out with and then you can move onto bigger things if you eventually feel the need.
Mine cost me R1800 second-hand. Not sure what they retail at these days.

Yo,
a mate of mine plays an me-20, the smaller older brother of the 25. hes a frequently gigging musician and it works for him. if you're new to pedals i'd say its a good option to hear what most effects sound like, but i think in the future you would probably want to move into having separate pedals, or a more powerful processor like the gt's/higher me range.
i don't know what price you could get for it, but if its a taste of effects that you want, might i suggest that you look for a secondhand me-20? could be easier on the budget and still give you what you're looking for.
my 5c.

What kind of amp you got Elfreako? Does it have built in effects?
What effects are you looking for? If you're just looking to try them all out, just get something cheap and second hand.
Some of us end up going with separate pedals - where you choose each effect specifically for its particular sound. Some of us wind up going for a really good unit, that may not do everything exactly how you want it, but does everything well and is more convenient.
It's best not to spend too much cash, I reckon, before you've decided where you're going to go with that.
Some people, btw, end up plugging one end of a chord into their guitar and the other into straight into their amp. But usually that'll be a pretty sweet sounding amp ?

Thanks for the replies ?
Yes I have the Fender Frontman 65R, so not much to play around with on there ☹
I was actually looking at those ME-20's first, and then I found the ME-25 and one feature I really like about it is the USB interface I think I could have a lot of fun with that. I guess the sensible option would be to buy a cheaper 2nd hand pedal to see if I like the sounds, I can get an old Zoom 505 second hand for next to nothing, but I am quite serious about playing guitar so maybe it would be worth just taking the plunge for the ME-25. I guess it all come down to pricing, I will phone around today and find out.

The ME-25 sounds like a good bet. Probably it's weakest link will be the overdrives.
For me the important thing with a multi-effects will be noise with the non overdrive patches.
Especially check out the modulation effects such as chorus and flanger as these can sometimes be quite noisy and will get worse with an OD in front of it.
An easy upgrade is to later add a suitable OD or distortion in front of the ME to improve the OD capability of the ME and use the ME for modulation/delay/reverb.
BTW does the USB act as an audio interface to a PC for recording or is it only for updates etc?
EDIT:----Just had a look on the Boss Website. The USB is an audio interface so it will make a nice unit for recording to PC as well.

I started with seperate pedals - distortion, phazer etc.
Sold them for the Zoom 505 - so many effects! But a cheap sound.
The Boss ME50 is now my pedal - yes the delay in patch changes SUCKS but when i play live i just have to not use patches..
The sounds are great though!
Would dig something better now.. :?

So how do you add effects/overdrive etc while you're playing live? Do you go into 'edit mode' on one of the patches and do it like that? That's what I do but it kinda restricts you as to how drastically you can alter your sound on the fly without having seperate patches.

doc-phil - The pedal operates in either preset mode or 'on the fly' mode.
In preset mode the pedals change the patches, in 'on the fly' mode the pedals actually act like stand-alone pedals.
There are 3 pedals - distortion, modulation and delay. They can be activated without pauses. I also have an extension pedal that turns compression on/off and preset eq settings, also no pauses. So live i just use distortion on/off, chorus for modulation, delay sometimes for lead, and only turn the compression on for leads (also gives a volume boost).
I've made some AMAZING presets - 3 totally authentic Hendrix sounds - cos they give you an OD1, tubescreamer, a univibe, a strat simulator and a wah... bliss!
I also made brilliant Metallica sounds using the DS1 and compression, and harmonized leads that can be tuned to a key.
There's even a pulp fiction surf sound I made using the tremelo, strat sim etc..
Now im working on my Dimebag or Meshuggah sound which is alright..
and this is all on the ME50! I love it!
EQ settings though are very limited, I bought a rack-mounted eq to compensate for this.

+1. The best way to use the ME-Series is as a pedalboard with programmable configuration. Use the patches to store/recall settings used for each song and then use the stomp mode within the song to turn FX on and off as needed.

I went to Music Mate at lunch, they have the Me-25 for R2300. Build quality looks awesome, nice solid and heavy. I think for what it is, R2300 is not a bad price for it new, ah decisions decisions ?

Got my ME50 6 years ago on a sale for R2000.
Exactly 2 years ago I had a break in- they stole my wallet, ID and drivers.. And my ME50!
I immediately went on Gumtree and bought another ME50 for R2000.
I then went and got a new drivers and ID!

I picked up the ME-25 up at Music Mate in Creasta today for R2000 (Asked for a discount ?), not a bad price. Just word of warning to anyone interested in this pedal, the version we get here does not come with an AC adapter or USB cable. The USB connection though is the standard one used on printers and scanners so chances are if you have a printer or scanner then you will already have this. And a standard AC adapter is not that hard to come by.
First impression, I am of course, as mentioned earlier new to the effects thing but I just cant get over the build quality...It looks readly expensive! I played around (made a noise) with some of the presets, lots to play with here ?
