Hi all My name is Michael and I joined Guitar Forum SA earlier this year. I am 19 and from Cape Town. For 2008, I am working at a junior school in the middle of England. Then I'll return to sunny SA to study business at UCT. Currently I am on holiday for a while and travelling through Europe for 2 weeks - in Italy at the moment. Okay, onto the music. I have been playing guitar for about 4 years. I compose a lot in many different styles. The songs I learn on guitar (usually thru the net) reflect my musical taste. I am into rock and punk, but over recent years I have become interested in classic rock and blues. The New Wave of Classic Rock is also very cool, including Toyko Dragons and Airbourne). My guitar heroes are Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, Richie Blackmore, David Gilmour and Van Halen. I collect badges/pins from around the world for my guitar strap. Including flags and cities of Europe, plus band badges which are often available at live concerts. Maybe I'll add a photo of the strap sometime. Gear: I have a nylon string acoustic which is over 30 years old. Black beginners elec guitar, SX-600. Blue electric guitar, Ibanez SZ-520. (pic) Marshall 30W amp. Nice Ibanez. I really like the fingerboard inlay. You have good taste in rock.

Where abouts in the Midlands huh? I'm a Lincoln boy myself. Little village with it's own castle called Boothby Graffoe.

Welcome I have the identical Ibanez to yours except is the gold amber sunburst one. The SZ520QM. This is my one :), its also in my profile pic, the deer/flame inlay is awesome

Thanks. My dad's wide taste in music has been passed on to me. With his big collection of CDs and mp3s, I have easy access to classic as well as obscure songs.

That's cool - I went to Lincoln and its cathedral on a school trip a few months ago. I am in living in Stamford, next to Peterborough. It's also in Lincolnshire.

Cool. I always thought of the inlay as a flame, but it does look like a deer too. I miss having fretboard markers along the neck, but I got used to that.

I love the guitar's clean sound. But the strings rattled when I strummed hard, so I had the action raised soon after I got it. Did you have that same problem?

In a few years, I am thinking of getting a Strat or a PRS/Gibson. Since Ibanez seems to be a producer of modern Rock and Metal guitars, do you think this model handles the tone of Blues and 1970s Rock fine? Clean or overdriven.

It isn't practical to fly stuff home and I think effects could be more expensive here (OD-3 for 65 pounds almost R1000 depending on exchange rate). I am saving my money to buy overdrive and delay effects when I get back in December. And maybe an Ebow coz those sound really cool.
