Straps for acoustic guitars with internal pickups

Most acoustic guitars with built in electronics have a big-ass end-pin that does double duty as a jack socket. When I've wanted a strap for use with an acoustic I've got a strap that I like and then hacked away at the hole at one end of the strap in order to get it to fit over the big-ass end pin. This is not ideal - you can cut away too much, and it generally looks ... well... like you did it yourself with stanley knife.

Anyhoo, I accepted this as a fact of life. Then I go to see Martin Simpson in the teeming metropolis of North Boarhunt, Hampshire and get talking to him after the show and he's showing me his kit and I notice that his straps are designed for the big-ass end pin.

So I ask him where he gets them made and he says "they're just regular Levy's straps.".

Now that's a brand that's available in SA (I believe Bothners are the agents), but I have never seen straps designed for big-ass end pins in local shops.

So, dear reader, have YOU seen such straps for sale in SA? If so then where and what brand?

Cutting the hole bigger with the correct diameter belt punch makes a clean concentric cut and works like a charm. The secret is for the business end to have thick leather.

OK.. so is that what you do? Punch a bigger hole?

hi ya Bob as you know both my guitars have LR baggs which should be same size end pins as yours as you also have LR baggs in your guitars and yes i use the simple nylon woven ernie ball straps ...at all my gigs........ and without any alteration what so ever ......they cheap and that "big ass" strap button will prevent any strap slipping off and acts like a strap lock........ i never had a strap slip off yet .and you know i toss my guitar about a lot while i play ?
