MIDI something

I was browsing through some pictures of Pedalboards, and I continually see something that I dont know.. Well I think its a MIDI switcher of sorts, but I have no idea of its function. Can you guys help me out:

If I had to guess, I would say that the switch boards are responsible for turning multiple effects on/off and/or responsible for rack mounted effects (I am also very ignorant about rack mounted effects, so maybe that should be in a separate thread, but maybe you can briefly explain those to me too please)

First is a true bypass looper - lets you switch loops of pedals in and out or singles that you want to use as true bypass.

Second is The G-System, which is a multieffects pedal that also allows you to switch other loops of pedals in and out based on patch.

Third is a MIDI controller for changing patches on any MIDI device - usually rack mounted gear.
