Libraries are a good thing. While it lets people read your book for free (and the copies sold to libraries are sold so cheaply that there isn't even any money in selling to a library), it is in a way free advertising. I feel that if your book is good enough, people will still want their own copy around anyway, even if they read it first at a library. Even if they don't buy their own copy of that book, it promotes your name, so that they are more likely to buy another book of yours when they see it in a store.
Point taken. More so with reference books that are intended to have a shelf life of more than one read (as opposed to fiction). Those damn library fines are just hectic when I'm trying to mod my guitar and my loan period runs out!!! ?
