Hey peeps ?
In my never-ending quest to get this forum to make money so we can do REALLY cool stuff (like our own version of Guitar Idol!), I've added Amazon Ads to the site. Check them out once in a while and buy something ?
That is all. *waves*

I would, i just get adds about vacuum cleaners tho and i already have one ?
NorioDS
LOL! I'm getting lots of guitar-related books but I think it's coz I've bought a few guitar-books from Amazon already, so they already know me there ?
It's quite cool how they target you and only show stuff you're likely to be interested in. It's just n00bs like you they can't target properly coz you have bought enough from them yet ?

Haha, i just have not logged in to amazon on my mac, else i would get books also
Manfred-Klose
Didn't amazon stop sending stuff to South Africa, because it never arives at the destination? Correct me if i'm wrong.
Dont know if i'm confused here?
cain
Manfred, just sending stuff standard post to SA. Cos the post office working scale the packages. Sending via DHL etc is fine ...
AlanRatcliffe
Good point though Manfred. A lot of people are not going to buy from amazon.com for that very reason (I'm one of them - I'm not paying a courier $60 to ship a $10 book, DVD or CD. Amazon.co.uk still posts stuff here, so maybe ads from thee would be a better choice.
Manfred-Klose
damn. theres a book on guitar building i wanted to order.($23)
I'll go look if stew mac has it.
NorioDS
Yep, good point! Will need to stick Amazon.co.uk ads in, instead.
Thanks for the heads-up!
NorioDS
Okie dokes, ads have been updated to show Amazon.co.uk stuff ?
Enjoy!
NorioDS
Amazon's got some REALLY good ads. Check it out...
:D

Some folk take great pleasure from telling me whenever they find a copy in Budget Books, in a clearance sale or second-hand.
NorioDS
You need to market yourself better so people can start telling you when they see it plastered all over CNA, Exclusive Books and in music shops ?
AlanRatcliffe
...which is why I'm now with a US publisher. My old one does not believe there's much of a market locally. They did OK for me in the UK and US, but my new publisher uses Hal Leonard to distribute globally, so it should be available everywhere.
NorioDS
Cool man ?
Well if you want some help promoting it online, let me know. I've been trying out some things lately that have the potential to work quite well.
Also, how opposed are you to selling an eBook version? You could end up making more profit with each sale.
AlanRatcliffe
As with a recording contract, once you sign, the sales and marketing are out of your hands. I'm confident that this bunch are going to do it properly though.
Electronic versions are also covered, and yes, my royalties are much higher for electronic copies. A publisher will often try and get what they can from hardcopy sales before releasing the E-Book.
NorioDS
Cool, as long as you're sorted man ?
How many books are you planning to write in the future? I think you're doing SA a lot of good by writing such top-quality, authoritative books on guitar. Bit by bit, you're opening it up for the rest of SA. So kudos to you!

I agree, and a hope a future book will be something like "Home recording for the South African Guitarist" or something similar. Or perhaps a DVD recording course... hey, come to think of it - why not a subscription recording course on a DSTV channel similar to that William blokes' maths lessons for schoolkids... ? We can all phone in on a Saturday morning with our silly questions while Alan draws us signal paths on the overhead projector!

Sis, man!
I did, however, see a copy in my local municipal library today. Glad to report it's been borrowed 12 times in the three months it's been there!! Suppose it's good to spread the info (partly) to kids who couldn't afford the book otherwise, but it made me wonder on what basis publishers sort authors out for copies sold to libraries - diminishes sales potential in that demographic significantly, I would think.
