My grandkids have been visiting me from JHB this past 2 weeks.
So Jessica, my six and a half year old grand daughter says to me, "Grandpa, I've written this blues song. Can you play guitar so that I can sing it to you?" "Sure" I say patronizingly.
Well, one run through and I knew I just had to record it.
When playing to my daughter and my 23 month old grandson, Daniel, his reaction was, "Danny sing, Danny sing."
So we decided to record him on a separate track. To my surprise he was hitting the notes albeit a little out of tune here and there. What surprised me even more was that he sang a harmony at the the end of the piece, which was not a fluke because he repeated it again when singing along to the recording. He was a little bit behind the beat, but I could see what he was wanting to do so I did pull up his track a bit here and there to get it into time. Jessica too battled with intonation, but hey, this was one take. I didn't want to kill the moment by doing several takes to try and get it right, although she was highly critical of her own performance.
