I think if you practise speed-picking for around 3-4 hours a day and you get the above 3 things right, then maybe in 20 years you can be this fast too ?

The kaka sound comes from palm muting which is which it's impossible to do without at this speed. BTW the metronome may be counting 320bpm but this guy is playing 4 notes to every beat ie 1280bpm or over 21 beats per second which is the hum of F0 just on the beginning of most people's hearing range

No Rene, the kaka sound im referring to isnt cos of the palm muting, its because things like this have no nice melodies etc ...

That was "flight of the bumblebee" no? It's a classical piece with a nice chromatic melody but it doesn't sound nice at that speed I suppose. This guy palm mutes all the time. I wonder why he does that. It's not necessary if you look at Cooley playing at similar speeds without muting. I dunno...

Yeah, Frank Gambale talks about this sort of muting and how to get around it. It takes a lot of work but Gambale's technique basically involves using your fretting fingers to mute the strings next to the one you're playing. That way, the notes you play sing, the others don't. LOTS of practising to get that right though ?

Ya...that will definitely take alot of practice. I have a cd of Gambale where he performs live with Virgil Donati. I got it at one of Donati's clinics here in SA. LOTS of fusion. Our local Ben Badenhorst has alot of that in him + amazing accuracy and speed especially at that age.

It would be cool if he could use this speed with slower parts aswell. The the shredding would not be so mindless. I wonder if he can play at this speed without building it up first.

Oh I just checked him out on MySpace. He is actually a great guitarist. Not just fast. Think I'm going to buy the album.
