Be brutal - about my band

Hey Guys

So my band is going through this whole launching phase, but before we do, I'd really like to know your ideas/opinions/perspectives on the music. The reason I ask, is that there have been some doubts, and I find that the music may be too hard to follow. I have my reasons but I don't want to bias your ideas, so use this as a battlefield for brutally honest opinions. I assure you, I can handle it, I'm encouraging you to be as honest, if you HATE the songs, say so, but give constructive criticism as well.

It's a bit too indie and melodramatic for my tastes, but otherwise it sounds dam good. Quirky.

Very cool! Will definitely go out of my way to check you out if you're in my area.

Cool, unique sound. Although I do agree that your songs may be a bit complex... some movements seem unnecessary to me, and taking away from the flow of the song rather than contributing, like they were added because they're fun to jam rather than because they're contributing to the songs' stories. But I prefer 'simpler' compositions so that may be personal preference.

For example: Emphasis on paralysis - composition/pace is excellent but the song should end at about 3.20, or the ending from about 4.40 should be moved there. Fatal descriptive attraction - same story for 2.16. I like the section in itself but it does not fit the flow of the song.

Other than that the only qualm i have is that your tone seems a bit thin. I think a fat, kyuss-style tone (maybe not THAT fat, but anyway..) would suit you better especially for the more riff-based sections of your music (which i dig btw), but again, this might be personal preference (and not fair to judge without having heard you live).

You guys should hook up with The Revelators. Similar vibe,great guys and are based in Cape Town aswell. They jam in my studio every week ? I reckon that would be a cool show.

I'm not really into this type of music, however...........some very interesting tones you guys create, not bad at all.........

I just find the overall sound a bit "dry", maybe not a very good mix.......... (please don't ask me to explain)......... ?

I do however admire guys who go out there and DO.........you can only get better.........

Shot guys, these responses were certainly better than I was expecting. Although you not leaving me with many critiques which maybe is a good thing.

@Skywalker - Where is your studio, and what are your rates etc. I'm always on the lookout for a prac studio. And I know the revelators. Raw Rock :woohoo:

Really tight, diverse, complex. I like it. Not my usual kinda music but I think it's really quite excellent. I like how Emphasis on Paralysis leads you astray in the beginning with piano and goes quite hard. Don't catch me out - the transition in the beginning from the lonely guitar to the fast rhythm is a bit too harsh, maybe a bit more of a build up into the fast would be good. For Emphasis on Paralysis I really like the 70's crunchy guitar vibe, just certain parts the singing sounds a bit flat but it's a cool song. That's my 2 cents, all round I think it's great though!

I love it - very much my kind of scene. I agree with the critiques about the slightly thin guitar sound, perhaps doubling the part or playing a harmony would help. Otherwise, I really dig it - I'm currently playing in a band with a similar style and I like how you guys keep the styles mixed and diverse! ?
