Your current favourite guitar tone

I know I like certain guitar sounds best for a while and then that changes and I admire some other tone. I also know it makes me change the settings on my own gear (and leads to some kind of GAS). So let's hear what your current (and maybe all time favourite) favourite guitar tone is. Mine at the moment is that lead tone on Heart of Stone - Dan Patlansky. I can't help making blues faces when I hear that.

Although not a huge fan, Listening to John Mayer on Crossroads 2010, incredible tone. Doesn't matter if it's the Fender or the Gibson!

Warren

Always really liked John Mayer's and Joe Bonamassa's tones.

But...

For some reason lately I'm really feeling some cheesy '80s tones. I heard Richie Sambora's solo on Living on a Prayer the other day again and now I can't get that tone out of my head. ? Same thing with EVH's solo on Beat It.

I usually go for a fender-ish kind of sound, not too sweet, just a hint of dirt in it. In fact I started to wonder if that sound was what actually steered me towards certain artists, rather than other, more important attributes of the artist/record.

So it is with some degree of relief that I find that at present I cannot get John Martyn's recording of the traditional "Eibhli Ghail Chiuin Ni Chearbhail" out of my head. Very different from my default choice - fuzzy, but in a warm way. Not a very Fender sound either, possibly P90s. On the album sleeve he is shown playing a semi-acoustic Gibson with dog-ear P90s, but I'm pretty sure he was making extensive use of an SG round about this time.

I love the tone Eric Clapton uses in "Travellin' Alone" from his latest album. Here is is on Jools Holland playing the song but the tone is bit more "passionate" for lack of a better word on the album.

I also quite enjoy Johm Mayer's tone that he uses in most of the songs of the John Mayer Trio. Here is is playing Jimi's "Wait Until Tomorrow" (and laying down a friggin' awesome solo by the way)

Or Def Leppard in the Intro to Two Steps Behind.

Funny for Beat it, I prefer John Mayer's solo in the Fall Out Boy Cover
