I think the irony is sweet considering all the complaints about the thing from abroad.
I think the irony is on SA for inventing the most annoying thing this century; it is not going to go away now. I also think that no-one enjoys said sweetness with a Vuvuzela being blown into one's ears from point blank distance.
We went out narrowboating (or barging, or whatever it's called) one day. I was steering the barge down the South Oxford Canal, nobody else in sight, fields and hedgerow all around, nothing to hear but cows lowing and sheep farting and then.... there it was... wafting across the Northamptonshire countryside. Some
asshole enthusiastic person blowing a vuvuzela. They don't sound that much better across the water, though the impact is diminished.
We reached our destination which was a pub in the middle of nowhere adjacent to a winding hole (turning point). The barman handed us the menus and then said "kan jy Afrikaans praat?"
I'm pretty sure it wasn't him who had been blowing the aformentioned vuvuzela. I'm pretty sure it wasnt' a cow either.
