gfsa jam night

noticed that the gfsa (cape town) jam nights are unfortunately no more - any reason behind that?

I think we got so busy the last few months, I know it is not an excuse!

Also our venue "Corner bar" can't be used anymore, since live music is now banned there. Stupid old age home >☹ turn down your hearing aids!

So we would need a new venue. Also with Graemestock, the need fell away a bit.

We should consider getting together again.

Maybe we can use Skywalker's place, will chat to him tomorrow evening.

Who would be interested in getting together again?

I'd not like to live down the road from a regular jam session. Even if it were Jeff Beck and Richard Thompson that were jamming.

People are entitled to peace in their own home, and music that you don't like and which is forced upon you is not unreasonably regarded as a noisy intrusion. Imagine you having to put up with 2 hours of Liberace from your uncaring neighbours every evening.

well this isn't jam night but i will be hosting an open mic afternoon (sunday lunchtime ) in Northcliff in early august it seems......... and this will not be a purely acoustic session .so electrics and tons of FX ect ect will be allowed but there is a strict volume level............ again because of neighbours near the restaurant ........... but the last show i organised there (which was the Gabrielle le roux benefit........about 2 months ago .) featured an electric guitar and bass duo and it worked well ......but at a conservative level...........

this will be an open mic.with everyone having 15 min or more depending on how many people play but this will not be a jam session ....... but everyone from beginners to advanced are welcome, and any genre just as long as the volume rule is obeyed....... basic PA , DI box's ,reverb for vox and guitar will be supplied by me.........

so if you in jhb look out for this........ i will post a separate invite when i finalise dates...........

also IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED PM ME COS IF THERE'S NO INTEREST IN AN OPEN MIC IN NORTHCLIFF it will a sunday afternoon from 12 - ending no later than 4 , i'll just organise a set show like last time........ and rather give the open mic a miss......... but if it's well supported it can be great fun...........

Bob, did not mean to step on toes here. The closest residential area is a good 2km away, but the people still complained ?

I'm still keen for this. I started the Farmstyle Blues Jams, but the venue is not available anymore.

Haven't got around to finding a suitable replacement. Keep us posted if anyone finds a way to pull this off

Without trying to spark some kind of holy war, would it not be an option to get your acoustic guitars out, get some pizzas and beer at somebody's house and have an unplugged jam?

Lean, Fitz and all the Cape Town peeps!!! I'm there like a bear to get something going at the studio. I'll chat with Lean tommorrow night and try come up with some ideas. If you guys have any ideas let me know and we'll make a plan. Definately the perfect spot to crank those tube amps without having the cops come around ?

What's an "acoustic" guitar? Lots of acoustics coming out of my amp ?

Acoustic jams can work, but to be honest, when I sing the way I like too the neighbours will prolly moan about that too. I can get loud.

Would prefer to be free from the worry about neighbours.

Well, they have a hole in the middle ?, usually big-ass strings like 12s or 13s ?, and for reasons that nobody quite seems to understand they magically do not need an amplifier. That sound stuff just sort of happens. It's quite spooky. I hear that Ozzy Osbourne has one but he's a bit wussy about being seen in public with it.

That is a cool idea Bob, I don't think we have ever had a acoustic jam in CPT. I once at Graemstock played some acoustic while Guy shredded over it ?
