OK I haven't heard his mellow stuff but yes "robot playing arpeggios" is pretty much my impression of him.

I really like the playing of Tom Hess but the production on the CDs is SO bad that you can't enjoy the music.

Then vote for him. The poor Texan has 0 votes and can break the sound barrier with his left hand ?

I have to say John pertucci... I seen vid's of him at a very young age ripping metellica songs live on stage better that kirk does on the recording. And I mean he's actaully getting better i believe that his playing on the new DT cd is his best... check out Constant montion's solo - just crazy!!!!

Malkav

I vote John Petrucci for playing and writing for the my favourite band - Dream Theater.

But also his phrasing, timing and tone are all excquisite though I do find it funn that he has never claimed to be a shredder. I think he's too versatile for that so lets just call him a guitarist who shreds occasionally ?

out of interest though has anyone checked out Guthrie Govan (OMG OMG OMG AWESOME IN EVERY WAY) or Daniele Gottardo (also amazing with very unique melodic outside phrasing).

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that talking about John's "pert tucci" is against the rules of the forum.

BTW, has he learned more than one type of vibrato yet? (ducks)

"Throws a duck at alan*
?

Satriani

Wow, I just noticed that poor Paul Gilbert didn't get 1 vote. I cannot take my vote away from Satch tho, so oh well ?

Ah but does your duck echo?

Heath

Tailon : throw a fender twin reverb in the mix , if the duck didn't echo , it bloody well will now ?

Wessel

I just took a listen to some of the track from Pauls new album Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar And it is pretty much awesome.

deanBailey

I said Rusty Cooley just plainly because he looks cool and his guitar is one of the only ones of the Dean Guitars I like.

...Oh and his vibe...

..oh and the fact that he shreds fast...

...really fast...

Oh and 'cause his vibe looks cool when shredding fast, really fast.
