I hate to stray from the original topic, but you guys are on something I like.

So cases; for that lytboard I want to get, they sell padded cases and flight cases, I personally want to go for the Padded one, as they are not that heavy, and surely pedals dont need THAT much security, I mean I dont often drop my pedals. Haha

What cases do you recommend

@Jacquesg4j - that stuff is pimped man, seriously colourful. I cant imagine its going to come cheap

Has anyone found a case that's made for some other purpose that would make a reasonable pedal board/case. With a bit of modding even. I'm pretty loath to spend thousands on a case, when it's not really a security issue (in fact a case just makes it easy to spot the valuable pedals and walk off with them). It's about convenience, right? Everything's in the box. Slap the box down, plub in the power and the amp lead and you're good to go. Pedals better protected than on a board in a bag.

I've never had one before (never used more than three pedals at the same time until now). But surely there's some kind of cheap case (like those braai tool packs) that you can mod to have a removable lid, that'd do the job?

My one buddy used to use a cosmetics case. I have another buddy who converted a drill case to carry his ME50. Worked like a charm.

I'd buy the case and make the board yourself if I was you. Would save you a fair amount of cash.

Ok. Interesting. They're not all priced super high. And I agree. The board is simple, the case is the tricky part.

Ok. How about this?

I get a child's suitcase - one of those little brown jobs that those of us of a certain age used in primary school. Then I make a flat board to the same dimensions as the interior. On either side of the board are two chords that act as handles to lift it out of the suitcase.

So now it's just the flat board with all the pedals attached on the stage. The suitcase sits with the guitar cases and what not.

Disadvantages?

Advantages :

Small
Light
Easy to store and carry around
No ones gonna steal it

Disadvantages :

If someone steps on it, they might damage a pedal.
You might look like a tool walking around with it.
If you do a gig in a school, the bullies might beat you up and take your lunch money ?

If I understand you correctly, the board would be cut to fit snugly in 2 dimensions. Would there not then be movement of the board in the case when you picked it up by the handle?

I don't think he'd have a problem. He could wedge it between his sami's and jiuce bottle ?

I think I have a plan.

Might need a bit of reinforcment, and it would definitely need a lot of foam in the bottom and the lid so that the board is held firmly and the pedals are shock-proofed.

As to looking like a tool, I'm a gen-Xer. That's our whole thing ?

An idea that I'll try soon, is to use an old army ammo case for a pedal board. The metal lid's inside will house the pedals (ok, there isn't place for that many pedals but it should take at least four or with luck, six small ones I reckon). The case's remaining interior space will be for cables, etc. The whole thing should be relatively light and easy to carry. Will build it sometime soon and post pics.

I cut a piece of 16mm Mdf exactly to the size of the inside of the case (which could exactly fit all my pedals, quite a coincidence), rounded the edges, sprayed it a nice black, fitted 2 handles on the side to lift the board out of the case, Velcro, cables... Worked well but now I have some new stuff so now I need something bigger... To build something like the Trailer Trash myself will not be TOO expensive, It's just the case that is still the issue, the warwick is super quality but pricey!! But I will save to buy it, will post pics though! Just tell me how!!

A question for you guys -

What are you willing to pay for a pedal case/board designed to your specs? Reason I ask is cos I'm in the process of building a few "standard" size board/case combo's for some GT8,POD xt units. I'll be able to make more if the demand is there. At the moment they're pretty simple designs but are well built and look swish 8)

Anyone interested?

Custom Board for stomp boxes? 80x60mm... Is that MDF? Its very neat and looks very durable... I would pay R900... Only because my dad has a Furniture/Woodworking factory and I can cut it myself!!
