DD-3 not Delaying?

I was busy messing around with my pedal board, and I was trying new sounds. The official BOSS site gave me some suggestions to use for my DD-3, it said for a sitar like effect I should plug my DD-3 as in usual (guitar input, output, amp) but get a spare cable and plug it in the 'Direct out' input and just leave the other end of the cable unplugged. Before I got a chance to try it, my power supply (The Boss adapter) went through what looked like an exorcism, as it was flashing its green light repeatedly on and off, and no signal was coming through my amp, so I took the cable out the direct out and the flashing green stopped. But... So did my DD-3

I tried everything, and plugging different cables, so I know its definitely the DD-3. So pretty much what happens is, if if plug in the DD-3 as I always have, i.e. just using input and output, nothing happens, not even with I turn the pedal off. No Signal. Now when I plug my guitar into the input and my amp into the direct out, it works, but no delay.. obviously, as direct out is not supposed to delay.

The pedal's LED turns on and off just fine, as if the pedal is perfect, but its not. Can someone please advice me what I should do?

P.S: Oh and maybe this will also be useful; if I plug the power adapter straight into the DD-3 I am able to turn the LED on and off without having a jack plugged in any of the inputs. As far as I have always known, most pedals can only turn on and off if a jack is plugged in the input jack.

The LED only tells us the LED is getting power, nothing more, or less... and yes, plugging in an external PSU allows you to turn the pedal on an off, this is the case with most pedals as only the battery snap is connected to the input jack, which typically is a TRS jack and the snap is connected to the R part, which is bypassed when you use a DC jack input.

I'm afraid that it doesn't look to rosy, and it sounds like the pedal has given up the ghost, and since parts are in short supply, in particular the delay ship itself, it may end up more expensive trying to fix it than replace it ☹

although do you really think the delay could be broken? I mean I did no drop it or anything, I just plugged in a jack in the direct out, which is according to Boss, all good.

Well logic dictates if it worked and now doesn't, it is broken :-\

WHAT is broken is a better question, and one that can't be answered unless a tech looks at the pedal.

If your PSU went ape for a while it's possible it damaged the DD-3. Have you tried a battery or another supply? IIRC, the DD-3 is quite fussy about power, so there is a chance that it's the PSU that is a problem, not the pedal.

+1, I had assumed that you tried a battery, but if not, then do so to eliminate the power supply as a possible cause.

Well the battery didnt work at all, I was only getting response (well more response) from the adaptor. Guess I will have to have it checked out then. Thanks for your suggestions though.
