I have an orange crush 30R that I'd like to replace with something better. I want to play rock/metal rhythm and move into blues rock. The orange refuses to do metal, and after some browsing I came across several video reviews of the MG50DFX. Any opinions (good or bad)? Any alternatives anyone can recommend (if so.. why?). Also considering a HT-5.... general confusion takes over... please help!

I'm biting my tongue, so all I will say is stay away from MG.
In my opinion the most un-Marshall sound you could get!
The HT-5 would be a better bet!

I don't know if any people here would advice dropping the Orange for that Marshall ?
Played a whole bunch of MG's myself, nothing spectacular. Distortion gets lost in the mix really quick. Better bet would be a Roland Cube, has a few amp sims, including some high-gain metal ones. ?

Or get a cheaper, second hand tube amp and a good metal pedal, like the one from MXR, or the Sansamp U.S.Steel which is an analogue simulator of the classic Mesa Boogie Twin Rectifier and runs great straight into an amp unlike previous sansamp pedals. Then you've got the whole story. Blues rock and metal. Warm as summer on the beach or fierce as a ratel that's been sleeping under your covers.

Thanks for the inputs so far. Went to the shops today, tried the marshall - really didn't like it at all. Did try out the cube 80 and it sounded good, but I see from some research people are saying the cube 60 beats it in terms of tone, and I'm seeing very mixed reviews. I couldn't find a cube 60 anywhere to try out. Can anyone shed some light on this?

There are quite a few tube amps on offer on the forum at the moment. Any one of them will beat a Cube60 when it comes to blues rock tone, and metal you can get with a pedal anyway as singemonkey suggested. Buying new while you're growing as a guitarist is just plain waisting money imho.

Allright thanks guys, I think I've seen the light... 2nd hand tube amp it is 8) I'll be looking for something smallish (HT5 maybe?) that wont upset the neighbors again. At this point I'm still a beginner so for now I'd like a nice practise amp.

You can certainly upset the neighbours with an HT-5, if you want to ?
