New guitar

Sorry I'm talking so quiet but I can hear them. The wife and kids that is. Scratching around in the kitchen again for something to eat. They were doing it last night as well and they're back there again so early. But they not going to find much hey. Anyway, I've been shopping a bit again. Guitar stuff and golf clubs and things. I've wanted a resonator for a while but never found anything that I liked that fit into what I was prepared to pay for what would amount to an experiment really. Then there was the vuvu friday thing at Bothners and a Cort reso popped up real cheap. And this bunch in PTA didnt make me happy with what they wanted for the thing after the vuv friday deal had expired for that specific deal. So I called up MusicMadness and they made it sweet. So I picked up the Cort reso yesterday and it's wonderful. Why I never got one of these before I dont know. It's not an expensive guitar but you know, I have bought some Corts before and always seem to be quite OK out the box. OK, so there's a few small things to do but I'll get round to that. But the action is nice and high. The strings seem to be set nice and level. But I'll tell y'all a bit more once the dust settles. It's Friday so I can drop them all at the church soup kitchen and that'll calm them down a bit.

I took some photos just now only with my fone so maybe you cant see too much. anyway, this thing is heavy hey. I changed strings to D'addario PB 13-56 with a .14 on 1st which I do on acoustics as well. I want to get a pickup on this guitar and was thinking maybe the Lace Dobro or some Highlander pickup which some of my heroes swear by. Another thought I've had is maybe a tele pickup between the soundholes, not sure if it should be neck or bridge pickup maybe neither. I'll do some thinking and listening to people. Anyway, I think it's quite a good looker. Takes some getting used to playing.

Highlander are the preferred pickup systems for resonators, but no local agent last I looked. Fishman have a system too, but can also be hard to find short of ordering one specially.

Then that is the way I will go I guess. But how the heck you knew what fone beats me.

Ray, take yourself down to Music Connection and have a chat with Richard Bruyns. Richard is the lap steel player with Them Particles and Bruyns Trust and he will have some good information regarding pickups, what works and what is available locally. I know that he uses a Lace on his National tri-cone, but I can't swear to the model.

About the electronics, some food for thought: A youngster who plays with my buddy Gerrit has a single coil magnetic pickup in his resonator fitted in the box just after the fretboard. With reference to the photos of yours that would be in the area where the 3 holes are.
It sounds awesome plugged-in. He recons it is very feed-back resistant too.
