Flippin between standard and drop D tuning on a Floyd Rose
dirkv
Hey guys i need some help. (yes i know but i am seeing a professional for my mental instabilty)
How do i go about setting up my Floyd Rose to change seamlessly between standard tuning and Drop D tunning.
Can this be done?
ralley
Ed Van Halen uses a device called a D-Tuna to accomplish this. If your bridge is fully floating (i.e. you can pull back on the trem arm, how most floyds are set) you will also need some form of trem stabiliser or (b)locking device.

Is there no what to simply set up the bridge and the fine tuners to E and D?

You can't while still keeping it floating. You need to fit a D-Tuna or similar to change the pitch quickly and a Tremol-No or similar to lock the bridge so the tuning on the other strings doesn't change. That's why most guys use a second guitar tuned and setup for the drop tuning.
[EDIT: ralley beat me to it]

That would be the advice to follow!
I have done some research on the D-Tuna, but the effort involved was just not worth it!

I do have a another guitar that i will probably set up for Dropped D tuning and i have checked out the D-tuna, it seems pretty cool! Are they available in S.A.?
