However what we all SHOULD be considering is this: it doesn't generally take long for crooks & counterfeiters to up their game. After all, you can log onto any forum & learn to your heart's content. Take the Gibson forum as an example. There are regular posts / stickies about detecting fakes; lists of mistakes the fakers make and what to look for. It stands to reason that the guys making them in ChinIndiRussia can read the same info - which is for our benefit, and revise their copies.
True ! That's why it makes sense to buy any collectable instrument from a reputable source and have the serial number cross-referenced with the particular model and confirmed by the maker.
The seller in the Lucille case would (most likely) not have been able to provide a serial number for that guitar. This is the only protection we as buyers have.
