The way I read it, Keira isn't really refering to this ad in particular, but to the general assumption that if it sounds too good to be true, it is. Sometimes people do seemingly stupid stuff for valid reasons. Or valid to them at least. If you shoot all of these down before investigating you will probably be saved from the scammers, but you will never find the few genuine bargain deals either.
Yeah. I agree with her that you can't assume people won't sell gear for stupid prices. But you've got to be very careful. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...
yep singe you summed it up ......... just saying amazing deals are out there............. and sometimes a quick sale means a great price to lure a buyer........... but hey if many of you choose to think it's a scam just cos it's cheap.......... thats actually cool, cos it allows me the opportunity to get the deals then ? and i do surf the music ads for just that........
oh and also a while back i bought a mint yamaha CG 171 S nylon with a hard case from a pawn shop for R1300 the retail is about 7K without the hard case.....seems too good to be true????
well just to show how depressed the 2nd hand market is.......... i bought it.............personaly didn't like it ...........despite it being the top of the current yamaha production line guitars...tried to sell it on with a case for R3500 thinking it's 50% less than retail in mint condition...it looked new not one mark on it (solid spruce top/indian rosewood back and sides) and includes a hard case (worth at least R900) that it was a great deal......and suspected my phone would ring off hook with prospective buyers............ NOT ONE ENQUIRY .......for months
eventualy i let it go at the original price to a student of mine........... so i made my money back ........ but no profit ......... (anyway i don't mark up gear i sell or source for my students ) but the moral of this story is i COULD NOT SELL A MINT LOOKING TOP OF PRODUCTION LINE GUITAR ..prob why the initial seller let it go at a price that i could buy it for R1300 ....... so yeah DON'T THINK CHEAP IS A SCAM............
OH AND THAT COMMENT BY VIC THAT THE GUY LOOKS RICH BY THE PICS SO HE DOES NOT NEED MONEY............. mmmm i know many well off people who live in beautiful homes but they mortgaged to the hilt and deep in debt despite the flash cars and lifestyle that goes on a credit card ......... and remeber even credit however high a limit has to be repaid sometimes.........and that an extra 12K would be quite a nice sum to have cash in anyones pocket even if you wealthy ......... or help settle an over laden credit card account ......... ?
WHAT I STILL SUGGEST
i still say if anyones genuinely interested and has the cash to spend........... contact the guy set up a meeting ...in person ....or arrange the deal be done through a music store.....who you can offer 10% to but they can varify the guitar if you don't wanna fly down to where they are.................. cos truly if a lucielle is a great deal at 12K AND AS MANY SAY SHOULD SELL AT 20 k then use another 2K or less to fly down and snap it up.( cos even if you spend on a flight it won't be more than another grand or 2 at most and at 14 K it's still a fab deal if 20K is the benchmark)
AND if it's a scam the guy won't want personal contact ........ but if he allows you to view the instrument or allow it to be varified by nearby music store.......... it's not a scam............ but i agree DON'T JUST SEND MONEY ON THE FACE VALUE OF A PIC
