Whats the story behind these? I often see some of them going cheaply online. I reckon they are used mostly for diy recording with sims like guitar rig, but it looks like a nifty mod to do. How hard would it be to make one of these sound good, in other words, just how crap are they stock? Or would it be easier to lift the system from the behringer and install it in another guitar?

I have one of the previous models without the USB stuff and in general I've learned so far that Behringer guitars usually doesn't have good necks, bad fretting to be specific, and that results in other ease of playability problems (had to give the neck bit more than usual forward bow and set the action higher to get rid of buzing) but maybe thats just my experience with them and I'm definately no expert, so just my opinion.

The whole thing is low quality, so not really worth lifting the electronics out. I've seen DIY plans before, but at the end of the day, not really something you want to do when you can simply plug into a good quality interface.
One concept that has promise is the hexaphonic systems via USB (like the Rolf Spuler Paradis) allowing hexaphonic DI for processing like MIDI conversion or FX on a per-string basis.

Thanx, guess I will pass then. I still want to buy a cheapy and then mod the crap out of it though. Active electronics, onboard effects, hot pups, racing stripes and whatever else I can fit into it. Short of fur on the neck and a dice dangling from the headstock, she must be as pimped as a Welkom Ford...
