I finally got the correct plug type to run my Big Muff off the pedalboard's power supply instead of batteries, but now I'm not sure if these pedals are also tip negative. EHX is vague about this, it doesn't say in the manual or their website. It also appears that some of their pedals are tip positive. Does anyone know about the new Big Muff Pi's?

Hey Riaan, I don't know the pedal, but a quick way to test the polarity would be to screw off the cover of the new power plug and insert it into the power socket on the pedal (this will make it easier to perform measurements). Put one lead of an ohmmeter on the pedal case or nut of one of the jacks and the other lead onto the power plug centre pin and outer pin in turn. The one that shows zero ohm continuity is connected to the chassis and thus 0V or negative.

They are tip positive. I think they are positive earth too - I distinctly remember having problems with one when I replaced the power socket with a DC power socket and the negative shorted to the casing. Should be OK if you use the standard power plug..

Ive got a Big Muff Pi and its the same as all my other pedals (boss, ibanez etc) I use a power daisy chain to connect them. Not sure about the BIG big muff as in the original one, that had a different power plug.

Thanks guys, I think you're right Alan. I have the big Big Muff, not the smaller one. I'll also try as you suggested Graeme but jis ou...huh? What was that....? ?

Before I could get to checking out the Big Muff's polarity, the damn thing just died on me... ?
It was still running on the included battery it came with and still on my board, when all of a sudden: no sound from it. The light came on, but no sound. So I thought the battery was finished and replaced it with a new Duracell. Same thing - just the light, no sound and no, the volume wasn't turned down. Checked everything. After a few more attempts, the light also stopped working.... ☹
So it looks like some component malfunctioned. I'll ask Graeme or Matt if they'd mind having a look at it sometime.
