BTW, did anyone see how the French coach refused to shake Parreira's hand? What a bad loser.
I really, really like the kind of person Parreira appears to be. I don't think he's ever put a foot wrong. And, when Domenech spat his dummy after the game, all I could see was Parreira gently holding Domenech's arm while he tried to reason with him. The FIFA official was growing uneasy and trying to intervene but Carlos just kept speaking to Domenech, calming him down about whatever it was. Could you imagine Alex Ferguson bothering to find out what was wrong?
I'm amused a little by the hubris of the England camp. After the Algeria draw (DRAW! That means neither side beat the other), Steven Gerrard said that was Algeria's "World Cup final". Etc, etc. And last night the English commentator said, "England are poor, very poor tonight. I think they'd have trouble beating Argentina or Brazil right now." Allow me to add Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, South Korea, North Korea, Germany, Slovakia, Serbia, New Zealand, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Honduras, South Africa, Chile, Paraguay, Mexico, Uruguay, France, Switzerland, Japan, USA and Algeria to that list...
