Keira-WitherKay on weekend i purchased a cheap (R400) 2nd hand classical from someone refered to me by a forum member actually ....... what the seller told me about the guitar seemed to have little value, cos i googled the company he said it was and found nothing , except that they do excist ...........so according to his word it is an old 70's japanese built classical........... i was keen before seeing it that it could be a rare early japananese aria ect ect but alas not........... anyway the guitar turned out to be a laminated top classical.......the label is removed so no idea what it is or what it's pedigree is................ but at that price i ussually just buy the guitar and pass it on to my students......... i bought it on my way to a gig...so did not even play it much when i tested it ........ but noticed the frets will need attention.......... then i took it home and sunday morning i played it seriously for 1st time.............. and found this R400 guitar to have an awesome clear and resonate tone.......... a loud guitar that fills the room without the player making effort to play hard........... and the tone surprised me.......i was thinking of passing it on to a student but have subsequently decided to keep it for myself.............. so again the good luck seems to be on my side... and i found a loud, tonally good classical guitar with some repair work neccessary to the frets. but at a giveaway price....... yep so just reinforcing that buying 2nd hand can reveal huge savings and also render some gems..........
JimmyD On the topic of little known second hand guitars, I bought a steel string accoustic years ago ago in a second hand shop in the U.K. It has the lable "Mountain - Est 1948" on it. I've never come accross another one and can't find any trace of this name on Google either. I know you do only classical guitar's, but as you collect and hunt around for rare gems, do you perhaps know or have heard of Mountain guitars ? It didn't cost me much but it is high quality and has a superb sound. I would love to know where it comes from or what the manufacturer is. It also needs a little bit repair (touch ups really), and would you know who can be trusted to do repair work ? Regards JimmyD
Klaus I'm in the same situation. I found a Hohner acoustic, I requested the model nr on 3 different occasions. It was given to me as BT3-rs. I cant find that anywhere on the net, which I find very odd. I emailed Hohner Germany, my email was promptly replied. I was told they did not have record of that model. Kudos to Hohner GmbH for the quick reply though!!
