Bob-Dubery Walking around London with a Bafana Bafana shirt on the day after we lost 0-3. Well somebody has to do it. I am in a 'net cafe off of Leicester Square. With Richard Thompson being the curator of this year's Meltdown Festival there is a major contingent of RT fans in town, many of us in touch via the RT mailing list (www.rtlist.net) and trying to arrange to be in the same place at the same time. A lot of us away from home and confusion reigning. It will all resolve itself, I am sure, but the fly in the ointment is several Brits and one South African who are making a stink about wanting to drink "real ale" (which is not available at the concert venue - they just serve pissy lager). I am in contact with people I know from Belgium and the USA via phone but they have no e-mail for various reasons, so the chain is now long and convoluted and I am trying to make sense of things and route information back to them. Alles sal reg kom. Sainsburys are making their own range of vuvuzelas - and are sold out. This includes a special kiddies range which taxes their little lungs less and also spares the grownups ears. One of the most downloaded iPhone apps at present is ..... how did you guess? A virtual vuvuzela. There's no escape. I even heard them on planes and at Dubai airport. We are catching 2 shows from Meltdown. Tonight is the evening of political song (I am a sucker for that civil rights era stuff) and then Saturday (I think, one of the pleasures of being on holiday is not having to worry about what day it is) we see the curator himself plus Loudon Wainwright III. But the things we are missing: Elvis Costello (solo, acoustic show). Seasick Steve. Earlier this week was "6 strings/6 guitars" with James Burton, Nokie Edwards from The Ventures, Martin Simpson, Motown "Funk Brother" Dennis Coffey, jazz-rock hero John Etheridge (Soft Machine, Stephane Grapelli) and the fearless (and very busy) curator. Fab soul singer Bettye LaVette (I posted a clip of her on GFSA recently). Loads of good stuff, and that's just at this particular festival. Gotta go and bear some more friendly derision. Some wag shook my hand this morning and said "South Africa are a great team..................... AT RUGBY!"
Bob-Dubery Conrad wrote Eish...was the guy (wag) looking or a fight or something? Not at all. It was all good natured.
singemonkey X-rated Bob wrote Tonight is the evening of political song (I am a sucker for that civil rights era stuff) After last night I can only believe, deep in my heart, that we shall overcome. Some day.
Conrad Now Bob only has to do the Diski dance in public... I bought myself a bafana shirt. I think it's important to rally behind our team. I felt so sorry for them last night...after goal 2...it looked like a 3rd of the stadium walked out.
