Hi everyone,
Just a little note to let you know that my album is now available. Selling for R100 each.
I'm about to leave on a short but hectic tour starting in Jeffrey's Bay (Potter's Place) Thursday night, Plettenberg Bay (Barnyard) Friday night, Mossel Bay (Barnyard) Saturday night, Strand Cape Town (Springbok Blues Sports Bar) and lastly Sunday, Cape Town (Willowbridge Barnyard) before leaving back to Joburg.
I'd love to see some of you guys in Cape Town. Will be bringing cds down with me as well.
Cheers,
Peter.

We're gonna be there on the Monday night. 21st June 2010. No idea why it's not on their website. Maybe it's because we aren't really part of the Barnyard. We're doing a one off show there.
Would love to meet you there.
Cheers,
Peter.

Just listened to the entire album.
It's excellent stuff...definitely one for the collection...for R 100 it's a "Buy it now".
Wow, repeating track 4 right now, it's worth the R100 on it's own...listening to the roar of a real hammond is such a rare thing these days.
Great production all the way through the album, and great guitar work and tones throughout.

Hi Lean,
Thank you for your feedback. I'm so glad that firstly you received the album and secondly that you are enjoying it. Thank you so much for your support. It's much appreciated.
Cheers,
Peter.

Was I the only one who got an unsolicited PM (and thus e-mail) about the release of this disc?
When does it become spam? Say I'm selling a guitar, placing a notice on the forum seems to be reasonable enough, but is it intrusive to PM everybody or everybody I think MIGHT be interested?
Nothing against Peter, but once genies are out of bottles they generally don't go back in.

I have to disagree with you on this one, Bob.
I also got a PM from Peter regarding his CD release, and I guess so did a few other members here who had showed interest on previous threads where it was mentioned that he was in the process of recording his new CD.
Different story if someone sends out 50,000 private messages to members at the Fender or Gibson forums, that's perhaps Spam...but a few PM from Peter to guys he's had dealings with here, and to you a guy who showed interest in a previous thread, that's not even close to Spam...IMO

100% correct Lance.
Look at the other threads that Peter posted regarding his new cd in the making. He probably sent PM to the people that stated in the threads they will be interested!

Hence the question marks. I'm not sure about this, but somewhere there's a line beyond which we are on the slippery slope to spamdom.
Like I said, this is not to attack Peter, but as a forum we have to be careful what we tolerate because it may become the norm.
In another on-line forum that I frequent there was one member who had been participating since before the rinderpest and who had a penchant for posts that were about 5% interesting opinion or fact and 95% gratuitous flaming of anybody who had a different world view. I was on the receiving end of this a couple of times and asked the forum is this was considered acceptable or healthy. I was laughed off (in quite a nice way) and the flaming party was referred to fondly as a "curmodgeon". He carried on insulting anybody who raised his ire, frequently without any provocation at all. Some time later somebody else joined the forum and before too long got up people's noses and a flame war started. People told him that his behaviour was unacceptable and his reply was along the lines of "well you tolerate it from so-and-so and what I'm doing is no different and no worse."
So on that forum the genie is out of the bottle, a precedent was set (not deliberately, but that doesn't make much difference) and the forum is poorer for it (and a couple of members who made interesting, constructive contributions got terminally fed up and moved on). I am quite fond of GFSA (as y'all may have noticed) and so I would not like to see something similar happen here because we all decided to turn a blind eye.
As I said, I'm not sure if a line has or hasn't been crossed here.

Firstly I reckon it's a little different promoting your self-funded record. If it gets over the top (multiple posts in various places) then it should be called to order. But let's face it - everyone with a self-funded record is putting their creativity on the line. I think it's different to flogging your old Squier, or promoting your line of patch cables. I'm not sure about this, but that's kind of the way I feel. I can see problems with my own argument.
The PMs? Not sure. I think maybe it'd be better to have a system for that to avoid potential complaints.
PeteM
In my case I had shown interest in Peter's CD, to the point of asking him on the thread if it would be available at retail outlets, so I was not at all offended by the the PM I received. I reckon its better that he sent me a PM than advertising on the thread that I could get the CD directly from him with contact details and all.
Bob, I can see your point to a degree about unsolicited PMs, but I don't think you can call this spam !!!
Surely, spam is blanket marketing and this was a gentle reminder from Peter to those on the forum who he considers his peers. Of course if you hadn't shown interest in the CD, then it could be considered a bit of cheek. But as I say, in my case, the integrity of the forum is intact.
Maybe, by raising this in an open forum, another Genie has been let out of the bottle. If there was a concern then perhaps this should have been discussed via PM directly to the Administrators.
I'm sure that Peter got the message from you, loud and clear, that he should not communicate with you via PMs in the future.
Maybe you should ask Norio if there is a way that he can block any PMs that are sent to you.
Wizard
I showed an interest in Pete's CD & got the PM.
Ordered the CD's and got them this morning.
Hey - his CD was even being played in Bothner's Plumstead this morning !!
Relax Bob ... and worry about people doing genuinely harmful things ...
Like I said, this is not to attack Peter, but as a forum we have to be careful what we tolerate because it may become the norm.
For it to become the norm, we would need large numbers of forum members making their own music, producing it, publishing it & then trying to "spam" it to fellow forum members.
I think I'd be delighted if this became the norm * eg *

Wow!!! I had no idea that my pms would cause such a stir. Let me say this. I sent out five pms as far as I recall. They were sent to the people that made comments on the post. No one else was contacted. The reason that I used pms was that I didn't want to come across as trying to "blanket market" my album.
Yes, Bob I did pm you. I obviously wrongly thought that you might be interested. Please relax. You'll never be sent another pm from me.
To the rest of the people that did show an interest, Inflames, Wizard and Lance, thank you so much for your support. It really is appreciated.
Cheers,
Peter.
