SO I use a Catalinbread DLS..... ITs great, a bit wierd to use.. I simply know that I like it more than my old Proco Rat, my Trex Mudhoney, my MXR dist 3, and my Proco you dirty rat.......... and my big muff
So I am looking at both these 2 newer models
The WIIO (hiwatt souding?)
and the Formula number 5 (Fender tweed cranked?)
Here is a vid with them both plus another vibe pedal.
Which of the two drives do you prefer?
MikeM
The WIIO sounds way fatter. Prefer it tbh ?
guitarboy2828
I think you should probably get both.. ?
They both sound so awesome.. wow.. BUT.. I godda agree with Mike, the first one has a lot more ooomph it seems.. But then, that fender tweet drive sound is also pretty smooth and sweet sounding.. Dam, I'm loving these pedals.. Where are the prices? ?
MIKA-the-better-one
All catalinbread pedals are $159,,, with shippping it works out from tonefacor to be ..... R1350........ So I figured I might get the WIIO
I have the DLS which is the marshall sound, but the WIIO sounnds cooler I think........ hmmmmmm :-\
I find that I love fender thus shoulg love the formula 5 but every time I listen I go woah that WIIO is crazy, just sounds very natural

This reviewer and his kid always have such an awesome schtick. Always very funny. And he knows his stuff too.
But I confess I don't hear a huge difference between the two amp overdrive simulators. They both give a really great, think, chunky sound. I think you could do well going with either or the Marshall one - what's it called again?

That's not to badly priced, what would customs slap onto that do you think?
That WIIO really does sound beefy, but that fender tone of the formula 5 is pretty sweet too, a little thinner, BUT, really smooth sounding.. I guess it depends on the sound you're after.. Although, the WIIO has an extra knob.. That is always a plus.. ?

on all 5 pedals ordered in over 2 years, the highest customs has charged me is R25 ?
thats why i buy from there, that and brad from tonefator generally throws around 10% discounts... more so for bands
shipping is R160, it has never been more than 2 weeks... Ile probably order this week for one of these :/
guitarboy2828
Oh wow, R25 is doable huh? haha.. Thats great, let us know what you choose! ?
MIKA-the-better-one
this is catching me now ☹

I'm a big fan of T-Rex.. But in this case, I perfer the WIIO! ?

Jee-pers. I've been looking at these Catalinbread pedals some more, MIKA, and I'm slowing becoming convinced that these are the best overdrive devices on the market. I'm starting to get a tearing yen for the Formula No. 5 or the DLS. Have you decided on anything yet?
I've got a very clean silverface like yours, and even if I get it black faced, I'm not going to be able to overdrive it except in large venues. It's just too damn loud. But that Formula No.5 offers all the dynamics and some unbelievable tone, even at acceptable volumes. It just looks dynamite. I have serious GAS man. ☹

I have the DLS already, and its really great..... I may.... be ordering in the nxt few days.......... a Catalinbread Heliotrope.....
The Formula number 5 is that whole TWEED cranked sound, very Rolling Stones...... I think that formula no 5 is the best thing to break up a nice fender amp.
The DLS is very Touch sensative, so I can control the gain with just my picking intensity, apparently the formula no 5 is better, alot better.
Tonefactor have a 10% off sale, and $14 international shipping.... So the formula no 5 would be around R1200..... amazing price
singemonkey
Are you talking R1,200 after shipping and customs and whatnot? What did you pay by the time you had the DLS home?
And here I was just about settled on a 1-spot power supply. But listening to the clips, these babies sound so much better with 18v. So it's gonna cost me more than just the pedal. I'm going to look into the tonefactor shipping story.
MIKA-the-better-one
Dude, Tonefactor shipping international is $20 MAX, which is around R160..... customs I have never payed more than R25 for a pedal..... so thats R190........
My DLS............. ALL Costs combines cost me, R1340.
Right now they have a SALE on.
Yeh 18v is way better for these pedals.... my DLs opens up alot...... But I need to buy a new Power supply.
Tonefactor is the cheapest pedal place for me....... I dont get pedals anywhere else.
singemonkey
Cool. Thanks. I think I may just go right ahead and drop the cash.

I am excited, I would love to have all three DLS Wiio and Formula no 5, maybe also the SFT
Vick
Dud.....(Hat teaser stallion is also tempting....

very much thanks to that intense oscillation switch...... I sadly cannot order my heliotrope until I sort out all my little pedal board problems..... its my rule... and very annoying.....
Catalinbread maybe my fave boutique pedal company

And damn cheap for "boutique" pedals too.
MIKA-the-better-one
yeh very good........... price wise and what you get in them.......... they all run at 18v which is suer cool............ I am very temted for that WIIO but........ I know i dont need it............... what i do need is that HELIOTROPE............... then i can replace my Ehx frequency analyzer.......... freeing up about HALF the space on my board ?
