Hi guys

I stumbled across this site.

would this be something worth getting. The price is pretty good and could be quite cool to do as a project. Or if anyone knows of something locally, please let me know. I would be keen to try something like this.

Not really worth it. You pay R1000+ for the parts (plus whatever you spend on paint, waterpaper and polishing materials, which adds up) and spending all the time finishing it, you still end up with a cheap guitar no better than the entry level guitars available for less locally.

Better to fiddle with buying cheap second hand fixer uppers until you have the experience and can afford to assemble a guitar from good parts.

hahahahah... You godda love the headstock on that guitar though! ?

Yip. That headstock does look a bit cheesey, but from what I saw on the Internet, they leave it bigger than usual so you can actually cut out the headstock to the shape you want.

Thanks Alan, so maybe I should try get a second hand squire or something and mess around with that? Would want to refinish it, got a dimarzio super distortion pickup to chuck in etc.

The paddle headstocks are made for that. A few minutes with a jigsaw and you're golden (especially if you spend half an hour or so planning the shape first ?).

That's a fine plan IMO.

It's a pity you're not in CT. I've got a pretty Squier with a lot of fret buzz but otherwise in great condition I'd give you for 500 bucks.

Thanks singemonkey I will keep that in mind. My dad travels from cape town to jhb for work quite a bit. I am going to sacrifice a Laney 50watt bass amp for this project, so if I get it sold I will give you a shout. Anyone interested in a bass amp?

A little different as there's nowhere as many inexpensive Explorer-type guitars available to buy as there are Strats. ?

Cool... Got myself a squier and gonna get ready to rip that bugger appart and try refinishing it. Got a pretty good condition squier strat. I will take photos and docment the proccess as I go and post them on gfsa.
