A quick question Riaan, do you have a "cover" or a box or something to carry it in?
No, I guess one will have to get a case or bag custom made for this. I would say that if you set out to build a custom pedal board specifically for gigs, more planning would need to go into it than what I did - mine was designed on the go and was dictated by what pieces of aluminium I had available.
For starters, I would say that one should first decide what pedals you need to gig with, and design the board around that, rather than as in my case, building as large a board as possible to accommodate future GAS... :? Mine will probably only be used at home. Having said that though, it's not impossible to travel with, and with a side mounted handle it should be light enough to carry with one hand.
I would also suggest some thinner and narrower aluminium square tubings or angled aluminium straits to reduce weight - mine is some kind of heavy duty aluminium, quite thick and not the lightest available. It's also quite hard. It was a doorframe for a large patio door, after all!
I have another idea for a travelling pedal board, to be made soon. This will only have space for four or five pedal, and will be made out of an old army ammo case I have. The lid will be the board, and the rest will be for storage of cables, etc. Watch this space!
