Cubase and Windows XP vs. Windows 7 question

My pc crashed a few weeks ago and its up and running again on Windows XP, but I've been told to rather upgrade to Windows 7.
Does anyone know if Cubase will run on Windows 7?
Some comments on the internet list issues with Windows 7 when writing to cd?
Is there anyone out there that uses Cubase and is also facing the same Upgrade question?

I got Cubase 5.1 to run on Windows 7 Ultimate edition. IMO there are 2 brands of windows 7 - 32 bit, good and friendly or 64 bit, bad and hostile.

If you intend to use more than 4gig's of memory (RAM) you will need to get the iffy 64bit version...

I guess Sonar 8.5 will run under Windows 7 32 bit as well? I'm thinking of an upgrade.

Yeah, Sonar comes with both a 32 bit and a 64 bit version. They work closer with MS than other audio companies, so tend to be compatible with new versions of Windows before they are even released.

From what I have read, the main issue with 64 bit versions seems to be hardware drivers. Fortunately, drivers are one major advantage of using a Roland/Edirol interface - they already have solid 64 bit driver versions for all their interfaces. ?

Thanks all, I'll probably go for Windows 7 32 bit as at the moment I'm using my AW16G digital recorder for most of my stuff. The plan is to eventually migrate to Cubase. Thanks for your input.

Drivers can be an issue for any 64 bit system, but more so for the XP 64 bit OS, rather than the new windows 7 64 bit OS.
I remember huge issues upgrading from XP 32 to 64, but only one when installing 7 64 bit in that HP had not written a 64 bit driver for the bluetooth comms on my laptop. I run 7 (v6.1 build 7600 64 bit) and have never had it crash on me. Cubase LE runs fine, as does guitar rig 3 and things run fast.

So I'd say the big leap here is actually the new OS. I, personally, would never go back to XP.

I am running Cubase 4.0 fine on Windows 7.
