Fender Super Reverb Restoration

I got this amp a while back and the restoration has started.
This is what it looked like:

The first step was to replace the non-original grill cloth. I stripped the amp, removed the seaker, cleaned them very gently and took the grill frame to Eugene van der Meulen. He cleaned the wood, sprayed the frame black again and covered it in material I ordered. So step one, replacing the grill cloth is done:

I'll post pics as the project progresses. 8)

Alan I am just waiting for the 2 boxes with the parts we ordered to arrive. This amp is going to get some serious TLC, valves, caps, the works.
I saw an amp Eugene retolexed, he really does stunning work. The tolex on the super isn't too bad, so Ill keep it like this.

Two amps on my "to get" list is a BF DR and a BF Vibroverb.

Well, time, as usual - If it weren't for the challenges, I wouldn't even be changing strings regularly lately. Otherwise, the one problem I have is my Stanley staplegun uses unusual staples that I can't get around here. The roll of grille cloth lurks at me from the corner of my music room on a daily basis, so as soon as I can do it, I will.

Thin on the floor in this part of the world, and those that have them are not easily parted from them. For good reason... ?

Grill back in, and new fender knobs. This week the amp is going in for a retube and recap. Got some nice matched 6L6's and sprague atoms.

I was just watching a long interview with The Reverend Horton Heat today, who was swearing by super reverbs.

Thanks for all the comments guys!
Even with the shakey electronics at present, I want to say this is prob the best sounding amp I own. The tolex has a bit of wear, and the metal parts have some rust, but it gives the old guy some mojo.

Well it's looking great inside so far. Everything in original condition, except the solid state rectifier mod that has to be removed and the GZ34 replaced. After that she'll get a nice recap, a quick pot service, a few wires neatened up, new tubes and a quick rebias and she should be singing. I really love working on Fender vintage amps ?

Thanks for the update Graeme! It's good to know the amp is in good hands ? I may just have to get a tube tamer for the super, haven't cranked it yet, but I am sure it really loud lol

Just finished her off now. Sadly, one of the 10" drivers is blown and will need to be repaired, but otherwise she is sounding real sweet ?

I checked the production code on the tube chart and this little baby was built in October 1965. A work of art IMO!
