Me too. I'd like to check out live music more often and in a greater variety of menus. One problem I have is that when I go to venues now I find that people who act the way that I acted 30 years ago (when I used to watch a lot of live music) appall me now. This is deeply karmic.
One venue you should consider is Andy McGibbon's monthly acoustic music forum. Small venue. Seating. A good standard of player. Decent grub available.
With you on this one Bob, Will definately give Andy's a go as well.
I remember about 7 years ago when Arts Alive had a Jazz festival down at Kippies in Newtown, My wifes Uncle who drums for "Steeleye Span", Paul Brady, Gerry Rafferty amongst many others was touring with Annie Whitehead who leads a Jazz band (The trombone is actually the lead instrument, quite interesting)
So off we went to Kippies and was surprised to see that most of the people in the audience were music lovers and a huge difference from some of the clubs I used to frequent in the early 80's, were everybody's mission was to get as vrot as possible.
This is the kind of venue I am looking for, similar to TJ's, frequented by musicians, appreciative audience, and where you can see musicians doing their thing.
My original post on this thread was made after only researching on the NET, CT still has more venues, but maybe the JHB ones dont advertise on the NET or have Websites!!!! ☹
