Good day fellow members of strings!!
Yet another question to the people who would know, because I am dumb and would not know...
I want to buy a Seymour Duncan Hotrails pickup for my Parker P-36... Would it fit and is it recommended? I just want a Humbucker sound for thicker overdriven sounds in the bridge. I will put in a coil tap to still be able to get that tele sound... Will it fit the P-36?? ?

Hi Jacquesg4j
You need to take off the scratchplate to see if there is room available, sometimes there isnt enough room for a Humbucker, in which case you'll need to rout the body. Also, you'll have to replace/modify the pickguard. The other option is to find a stacked humbucker designed to fit into the space of a single-coil pickup.

It is a single coil size with humbucker sound so I suppose it would fit the Single coil in the bridge... It is made for a tele and the P-36 is a tele style guitar!

Ok cool, I'd suggest you check the dimensions and then measure to see if it matches that of the pickup.

AHHHH nice that will really help... Now I have to get home and measure them!!

Hey, keep me up to date on the changes to your Parker, I'd be interested in what it sounds like... I might be looking at going to a noisless set of pups in my Parker soon...
Jacquesg4j
Cdee I checked out a couple of reviews on the Hotrails and apparently the are very high gain... gives you a super metal sound... Not really what I want but I'm still gassing... I checked the size and it seems as if it will fit... Can pick one up for R450... Also wanna know what it will sound like!

Take a look at the DiMarzio Area T or Area Hot T. Stacked, rather than side-by-side humbuckers, so more of an authentic single-coil tone and output than any rail pickups, but noiseless like any humbucker. I've got an Area T in my Strat/Tele Hybrid, which is more of a low output, bright, spanky tone than the Hot T.
Jacquesg4j
Thanx Alan I will check those out! The stock one is also very bright spanky tone, gives you a real nice tone when used wit the neck PU... But on it's own it struggles to give a nice rock sound, but it does have an awesome blues sound... Maybe I just need 1 more guitar... hahaha...

Yeah, I think any hotter humbucker-style pickup is going to throw out the middle switch setting and overpower the neck a bit, but if you want more of a humbucker's power at the bridge and don't mind the volume discrepancy (or want it), maybe something like a Duncan Little '59 is an option too.
Jacquesg4j
MMMh yeah don't really wanna lose the neck/bridge sound come to think of it, i use that mostly, what is the option of coil tapping it?? I've never heard about coil tapping the bridge??
AlanRatcliffe
Haven't tried it specifically, but common sense tells me that many 'buckers will be too bright for Tele bridge when tapped - unless you go really high output.
I still think you should be checking out the DiMarzio Area Hot T - Not quite PAF, not quite Tele, but very nice... I may order one myself to try instead of the normal Area T I've got now
Jacquesg4j
You must really let me know what it sounds like... And maybe a price??? If you sell these??
AlanRatcliffe
There are some great clips on the DiMarzio site. I'm not a seller (just a buyer/user like you), but Marshall Music Cape are the distributors, so they should be able to give you prices.
Jacquesg4j
Sweeeet ass I will go check them out... If it works for you it must be just right...
