Ok, here's where I am a complete numbskull. Recording with different programmes. I like to press 1 button (record) play and that's IT. Now I realise have to do alot of tweaking and so on. Here's the thing. Norio gave me a programme called Audacity. Very user friendly, literally press record and off you go. Hit record again, it plays back what u recorded while recording the next track etc... Can import backing tracks mp3's or Wav not midi tho)
Now I've got this Digitech GNX4 which is obviously a higher standard of recording, and I can clearly hear that. However it is also the same functionality which I like. ie - I press record on the actual pedal and off I go. Records in real time whatever I play etc....
Now the pedal came with 3 programmes, which I have installed. I don't use either Cakewalk Pyro or Pro Tracks Plus 2.2
I just don't understand why I need to use em when I can record it straight up?

I don't know the GNX4 or the mentioned software so I am taking a wild guess here. You need to get the tracks from the pedal to the PC, align them do some final tweaks and balances using Pro Track. Then you need to burn that to CD for sale to your adoring fans using Cakewalk Pyro 8)

If you have Cubase, I really don't see how you're feeling limited after just recording one track?
I've been using SX3 (still waiting for the bugs to be fixed in 4) for so long (and almost everyday) that I've made my own shortcuts (File > Key commands) as there aren't enough lol
I might not be understanding your question properly but if you want to cut up a track either click the scissors around your transport bar at the top or push "3" make your cuts ? then back to "1" to get your pointer cursor to move things as you wish. Really, Cutting, editing, trimming, quantizing and moving hasn't been easier.
Audacity is freeware but I really can't stand it's userability and compared to Cubase it's really a joke. (anything above SX 2 at least)
I've heard some good things about Reaper but haven't tried it, but If you have Cubase you don't really need anything else unless you're trying to do something crazy really unorthodox ???

Horses for courses - I am fairly familiar with Cubase and have used Cakewalk/Sonar for about 15 years. Cubase and Sonar are highly sophisticated DAW's. Although they both have enormous functionality they are bloated memory hogs. Reaper at best has about 70% of the functions or features of Cubase or Sonar but uses about 80% less of your computer resources. This makes it possible to run a Bass, rhythm and lead guitar track each with their own separate Guitar Rig plugin plus have keyboards and drums running on Edirol Super quartet plugin without having to freeze render or mixdown anything to prevent dropouts. I do this regularly on my P4 with only 1 gig of memory. ?

lol shit just realised..That's probably why I don't have any problems running two instances of Addictive drums (they never give you enough cymbals) Four instances of Revalver MKIII and one Amped SVX, 'cuz my PC is a tad bit faster than usual.

If you want near realistic drums try cakewalk and get the sc-88 pro drumset. Together with the vc3.2 sound canvas you get some pretty good sounds. If you do take my advice and need help integrating them into cakewalk let me know. Hope I helped

Dunno if this one has been mentioned but another fun drum machine where you can build your own drumtracks
http://www.guitar.sk/drums/drums_main.htm
Plus you can then record it and import it into Cubase as a track and do the rest

Hey BANE i started using Cakewalk Sonar! Very cool program and easy to use.
Can you give me a few tips regarding drum pattrens and stuff?

Sonar has a midi plug in called session drummer which allows you to insert pre written standard drum patterns for your song. It also has a paint tool which allows you to paint in drum patterns with your mouse. My best advice is RTFM if you have it, (or take some lessons from an expert in your area). As for the drum kits from the virtual sound canvas they are so-so (not layered). The Most realistic drums from Edirol IMO is the Ambient Kit in their HQ Super Quartet

Ok i am no drummer, and merely use it to play drums and stuff i wrote so i have something to jam to. Make sure you get the Roland VC3.2 sound canvas and the SC-88, makes a difference. It's a little mission to set it up but once it's done it's done. Let me know when you have it.
Well i use Guitar Pro 5 to write my drums, then export them as a wav. file and load it into Cakewake. One thing i have noticed is if you want realistic sounding drums, variate the patterns a bit, add a splash here, so on. That way it sound less like a machine and more like a creative player. Just so you no there is a latency issue, so the playback is usually delayed by a beat or two, but that doesnt matter unless you are actually following the scroller.
If you don't feel like writing your own drums download drum loops from...well...anywhere.. Then you just load them into the program. My advice is mess around abit. You'll get the hang of it soon enough.
Oh and ACID Pro 4 or 5 are also really cool.

This information is all good Thanks! I have a good idea how drumming works my best friend is a drummer so that helps. It is just laying it all down.
I was hoping there is a quicker way to do it. Session drummer? Will that also be in Sonar LE or did I just not see it in there? Doing block for block is a mission.
I just want to put down a beat then here and there put in rolls and little fills and stuff.

Bummer Sonar LE does'nt have all he nice stuff like session drummer. What I do is write one bar of drums a standard beat would be kick on 1 snare on 3, closed hi-hat on ever beat and every half beat. Lopp enable the clip and drag it for as long as you want in the song. After that ypou can add your splash cymballs, rolls at end of verses etc.
