The sound was very good, and i hardly would complement something sound wise.
I stood right infront about a arm lenght away from steve morse.

The band that gave the best performance was Wishbone ash.

I got plectrums from steve morse and from the guitarist of uriah heep, mick box.

Wishbone Ash were by far my fav of the night. Sound wasn't too bad, just bloody loud. All in all a rocking show. Steve Morse is indeed one insane guitarist. Dig that new purple Musicman of his.

The Grand West Arena has very nice acoustics (I Know, the company I work for did the acoustic design)

They also have a good house PA in the form of a JBL Vertec Line array system which complements the venue nicely.

Glad the sound was awesome......now if we can just get a decent live venue like that up her in Jozi......... :-\ :-\

I agree. Those two guitarists are brilliant. Maybe more of a personal taste thing, but I liked their sound and style the most.

Steve Morse was technically brilliant, but for me DP is not the same without Blackmore, also just a personal taste thing I guess. Is Ian Gillan a bit too old now....? The rest of the band was amazing though, particularly the keyboard player and drummer Ian Paice. My jaw dropped during the keyboard solo...particularly when a Kurt Darren tune briefly popped up... ? ...followed by Nkosi Sikele!

Ol' Mick Box of Uriah Heep was by far the coolest dude IMO: the looks, the attitude and the playing combined. Wish I could look and be like that when I'm in my 60's... ?...loved it when he mentioned their past excesses and "all the sex, drugs and rock and roll of '76...well I'm still here". ?

Wishbone ash were quite impressive. Admittedly I never listened to them in the day so I don't know their music.

IMO Uriah Heep have always been the poor man's Deep Purple and they didn't disappoint. After 5 minutes of there set I took the opportunty to go fetch beers at the bar until they were finished their disingenuous wailing

Steve Morse with Deep Purple did it for me. If there was any doubt in any bodies mind whether Blackmore could be replaced Morse dispelled all doubt in the first number with his solo to Highway Star. For the most part Purple are as vibrant band still every bit as fresh as they were in the 70's although Ian Gillan voice has not quite survived the ravages of time.
