"Simple, but effective" my ass - he's talking nearly R200K's worth of mics:
Neumann U87 - R50K
Neumann M149 - R60K
AKG C414 - R13K
Gefell - depending on model, but between R50K - R60K.

To be fair, he didn't say "cost effective" or "cheap" ?

However it doesn't seem that simple to me. He's talking 4 external mics, an internal mic and a UST. I suppose it might be simple if they figure out one mix that works and stick to that for the entire album.

Won't he run into some phase cancellation problems with that many mics?

:O that's a little insane..

Slight detour, but is there a decent condenser mic that isn't over like R5k? Or is that not possible? That is something else for my future wishlist, but looking at the prices of the mic's you listed, doubt I'll be buying one of those, ever.. ?

[EDIT] Nevermind about my question, did some searching on the forum and found the answers I was looking for! ?

Exactly. Finding the sweet spots for player and for each mic (plus the other dozen mics they will have tried during setup) will have taken days. Then there is setting the compressors, which he says they used during tracking. Once you get something you are happy with, it's a case of "setup & leave" though.

Probably. That's why it will have taken a long time to get the perfect setup.
