Strat sustain improvements

I have a 1990 USA strat and want to experiment with sustain improvements. i
It has a universal pickup cavity. would modifying this to separate cavities improve sustain.
Any suggestions.

No, filling cavities won't make an appreciable difference. A good solid neck joint and bridge down flat are crucial. Heavier strings and higher action helps. Otherwise I've known some go as far as glueing in the neck, but that changes the tone.

I guess if you're just wanting more sustain when played plugged-in, you could add something like a Clapton Boost Kit to up the output.
If you're really wanting to improve the acoustic sustain properties, I've often found too-loose truss-rods rob guitars of sustain. Make sure the guitar is given a decent setup with a relatively straight neck (little relief), along with Alan's advice for heavier strings. If that doesn't do it, get another Strat because sometimes you just can't make something it's not.

The best way to improve the sustain on a Strat?

Put it in it's case, slide the case under your bed, grab your wallet and go buy a Les Paul or PRS. ?

Seriously...buy a Compressor.

Thanks for the comments I appreciate it. Took the neck off and removed all the Fender marketing material. Given it a good setup sounds fine. I do have an Les Paul, a Heritage CM150 made in the original Kalamazoo factory. looking at changing y collection and will probably swap it our for a decent strat or tele.
