And had a most pleasant experience... the sale, which really is very good, had put a couple of MIA Fenders (including a very nice Fat Strat) into a doable price range. So I settled into the soundproof room and had my way with 3 or 4 of the most delectable ones. I suddenly realized that the GAS was not turned on and that in fact the guitar I was most happy with was the one I already had at home, hanging on my wall, waiting for me. (Yes, a tone knob did basically fall onto Rene's shoe the other night, nothing a little plumbers tape can't fix). So I went home with a foot switch (which I have to return because it's momentary and not latch despite what they said) and that's all. I may have left with a pitchblack (how could I miss the one for sale on GFSA!@!@!) or TU-2 but they didn't have stock.

I just got back from the Plumstead branch too. I think Bothner should just rename themselves The Cort Guitar Shop and spare everybody who doesn't want a Cort the trip. 90% of the guitars they sell are Cort. Didn't use to be -this- bad. The Cort ratio has shot up since the last time I was there about 4 months ago.

Anyone of you guys seen if there are Vox AC4TV's or Blackheart Little Giant Half Stacks on sale? Or any other good valve amps? If there are I may as well take the plunge now, if they're on sale.

Didn't look at the MIA Standard (was checking out the fat in particular but i kinda like the low rent highway one sunburst matt finish... though not as much when i actually played it...) but give them a call - it looks like they're marking down on top of the markdowns...
They had a nice John 5 Tele S-H hidden amongst the million Corts that looked great but the neck was like trying to choke a 2 litre coke bottle.
As for the amps, EVERYTHING was on sale so I would go for it - push for more of a mark down though. Wasn't amp shopping but the Fenders all looked like solids.

Riaan: I think pretty much EVERYTHING is marked down, and they do have lots of amps although I can't recall the details.

They had a nice John 5 Tele S-H hidden amongst the million Corts that looked great but the neck was like trying to choke a 2 litre coke bottle.

Yeah that one is going for a really good price. I messed around on it for about 2 minutes, not plugged in. The neck profile is coke bottle-ish yet seemed manageable, which surprised me being the Ibanez flat neck type. But those tiny frets...who shreds on that?!! (Well obviously John 5 does, and quite spectacularly well too LOL!)

I didn't even notice the frets passed the profile (I like flat D profiles but not so damn broad)... what did you think of the headstock?? Brave of Fender to discard the tele shape and go for... what the hell would you call it?

That headstock is the ugliest thing I've ever seen haha! It surpasses ugly into the downright-evil territory, but in a vintage kinda way... for a guy like John 5 that's perfect. It does have a practical reason too (somewhat), it's designed for those behind-the-nut bends he does. Check out some Youtube vids of his guitar clinic at Guitarcenter LA, amazing to watch.

Riaan, I have 2 mint condition little valve amps for sale if you're interested. A Blackstar HT-5 Combo @ R3850, and a Fender SuperChamp XD (with optional footswitch) @ R 4650. Both are mint condition with less than 10 hours playtime and original packaging.

The weight of the John 5 was an issue for me - it's a boat anchor. Having said that, it does the country twang thing to the shredding thing (and most things in between) effortlessly. Surprised the hell out of me just how good it sounds at both extremes.

Both great small amps. The HT-5 is very "rocky" with Marshall to Mesa Boogie tones (and blending of the two), while the Superchamp is more of a sonic chameleon.

Yes! That thing is in-credibly heavy.

5W vs 10W. Clean/Distortion vs only 1 channel. Effects loop vs no efx loop. Speaker emulated output for line into desk vs none. etc etc etc. Very different and the HT-5 has a lot more on offer. They are, afterall in different price brackets completely.

BTW I'll drop my prices as follows, but not neg at this level:
Blackstar HT-5 @ R3350
Fender SuperChamp XD (incl. optional footswitch) @ R4350

Please anyone interested PM or email me from here out - I'm going to be repremanded by mods for hijacking this thread.

BTW I bought one of those lovely Boss Fender Reverb pedals yesterday on the Bothners sale for R695 ... didn't need it ... couldn't resist ... VERY happy with it.
