Seeing as I've been posting random arbitrary nonsense on the forum I thought I'd pick up the Epi and record a little. This was also inspired by Alans little drum piece he posted for Norio. I still battle with getting drum backing tracks for my recordings so if anyone has suggestions, please do enlighten me.
Anyway, I use a very primitive / crude rig to record my stuff, what i know about recording is scary. So i use an ancient Acer Laptop with Audacity. When I build my PC I'll install CW7. But i plugged the Epi into the [CENSORED] and from there into a 8ch mixer that can help as a 'preamp'. My line out runs to the line in on the laptop. I've recorded many things like this before and while not great, it serves a basic purpose.
Yesterday I sat for what must be 5hrs laying down various tracks, looping sections etc... really impressed with what I'd managed to achieve. As it was applying one of the changes i made i realized that i actually hadn't made a save of this copy - Murphy struck and the lappie crashed while the change was being implemented. I lost it all. My save had been done too far back i pretty much ended up with a useless file.
I finished the night off with a brandy and a smoke... and then i cried like a little girl.
Lesson learned.

Ouch, sorry to hear that Spyke, did you manage to record your girl like wailing by any chance?

I would have needed a really sensitive mic for that, or a camera with a very low lux - as this was done in the dark, in the corner and quietly to myself, barre the random, erratic sniff.
I will get it down again, and post it here shortly, if the magazine deadline doesn't hamper things.

Hahaha ok cool man, would love to hear the track!

Hey Spyke - sorry to hear about that. But it's something that happens to us all and as with you we hopefully learn from it. I save and backup regularly. Three backups: to another hard drive, another networked machine and every so often to rewritable DVDs.
Does Audacity have an "Autosave" feature?

Just checked now, doesn't look like it does...
More motivation to get a proper system up and running.
