I'm wondering which one is better for beginners.

Does anyone own one of these or tried it before?

Hmm.. One's a bass and one's a guitar? Did you realize this? So, it depends on what you want to learn how to play.

In my humble opinion you should do yourself a favor and buy a second hand guitar for the same money. Look for Ibanez, Cort, Yamaha, Epiphone and you will have something worth playing for a year or so. If the bug does not bite, you can flog it for only 20% loss whereas you will have trouble selling the J&D for anything over R500. If the inevitable happens and you want to upgrade, the same applies.

Currently I saw these two on a used guitar forum so I'm wondering which one is more suitable for beginners.

Should I go for one of these two or should I look for some other second hand guitars?

The top of the range guitars are most suitable for beginners, they play very lekker ?
Unfortunately beginners want to spend as little as possible so they look at cheap guitars. Just bear in mind that these will invariable be more of a challenge to play. It's like trying to get a good golf swing with a plastic club.
The guitar you are looking at is a steel stringed guitar, harder to play than a nylon stringed acoustic guitar. Find yourself a nylon string from Yamaha and you will get a slightly more expensive but much better quality instrument.

If they are used instruments, would you be able to go to the sellers and play the guitars? If not, you could also try looking at locally available used acoustics. Anything that would be in your budget, sounds good to your ears, and feels comfortable would be a good beginners guitar. Like Gearhead says, if you buy second hand, the loss in selling it again will be substantially less than if you bought new. As far as these two particular models go, I don't know much about them, you would most likely have to go by the given specs, both seem to have solid tops ( iow not laminated ) , both have mahogany back and sides, etc. You would not have any way of really knowing how they sound though unless you hear them for yourself. So, being 2nd hand as you mentioned, I suppose you would have to go by which one seems to be in better condition for whatever you feel would be the right price. But like I said, depending on your location, it might be a better bet for you to consider local 2nd hand guitars that you could inspect and listen to.

OH! I thought that acoustic guitars are all steel stringed!
