So I'm supposed to be studying right now. Decided to do something very important first. After all the talk on the forum about cameras and flametops I thought I'd update my gear photos. Ilse isn't around and I've been looking for an excuse to use her new camera.

So here are a few pics ?

First up my Squire Affinity with GFS lil killer hotrails

Next is my Hamer P90. Only mod on this is the Graph Tech nut put in for me by Andy. Notice the beautiful VENEER ? flametop. ?

And lastly, by beloved Casio MG-510. Gearhead had it for some time to repair the midi system and remove the bridge humbucker to put in the DiMarzio V V '54. Must say, I am REALLY liking that pick-up. Unfortunately too much to be used in church ☹ but in all other respects, it kicks ?
I still need to use the midi system sometime, really curious as to how it sounds ?

Well, that's it for show and tell today. Suppose I need to get studying.

Really nice, Sean. I'm not usually a fan of candy-apple red, but that squier looks pretty damn wicked with the hot rails. I'm surprised it doesn't start smoking when you take it through the church doors ?

Hamer also looks great. That's some good looking veneer ?

Maybe we should all get together and gate-crash CDee's pad, he has a nice study/ music room, and we can make a helluva lot of noise, the neighbors are so far away, they won't even hear us!!! Hahahahahaha.........

Au contraire. Good pics Sean. Outside, in the shade, very clear. Only advice in future would be to avoid getting the bright sunlight in the background. But generally better than 90% of guitar pics people post on the internet. Ilse's photography must be rubbing off.

Cool pics Sean, where's the rest of your guitars? I seem to recall there's the nylon, an acoustic and then some... And the amps? Pedal board? The guys love it here ye' know... ?

Yeah, I only noticed the reflections now, especially in the close up of the Casio. Yikes :rolleyes:

Hmmmm..... I used to work for the then Casio agents in SA, repairing items in their musical instrument line back in... oooh.... about '84. They had a MIDI equipped guitar then, though I don't believe it was the same model that Sean shows here. I don't recall that control layout.

IIRC the Casios then were made by Ibanez. They were essentially Blazers with some cosmetic changes and some extra electronics, so they were reasonable guitars.

..checking out the comments re Sean's Casio. Correct - Casio don't make guitars. I believe the body and neck are made by Ibanez. Sean's casio was 'heavily' modified - in order to stop string breaks at the bridge saddles I installed Ibanez 'Steve Lukather' saddles - upside down so the strings go over a 'slow' radius - this meant making a custom bridge plate. The nut was replaced by a Wilkinson 'roller' type. The tuners are locking 'Gotoh's'. The pick-ups were Seymour Duncan's - a Li'l Screamer at the bridge and Alnico 59's in middle and neck slots (to my ears the neck pick-up has a great blues tone..). At least one of my colleagues insists that the Alnico 59 magnets are so strong that they pull the strings out of tune! The frets are new as well.
This guitar has gigged all over Gauteng but more importantly made me a lot of pocket money in Hong Kong!

If I can one day play it half as well as you did, I'll be very happy person ?
I'll drop in at your place next month sometime and I'll bring it along. I'm keen to test the midi system to see if Gearhead got all the bugs out.

Good to see you here Geoff, sorry to have to disagree ?
I looked up the sticker codes on the back of those pups and either someone sold you a nice story when you bought them or they have been swapped after. In there are two SSL-1 Seymours and the bridge bucker I took out is a Custom Custom. This is a very unlikely combination since the SSL-1 are meant for brightening up a warm instrument and the Custom Custom is meant for taming a very bright instrument. The main complaint Sean had about the instrument was that there was no good sounding high note to be found on the fretboard. I posted on this forum and we came to the conclusion that the h-spaced Custom Custom was no match for the more-then-f-spaced bridge you had put together. The high E was half missing the magnetic field and the CC's dark character did the rest.

The Custom Custom has been taken out, put into one of my guits and has been equipped with a Alinco4 magnet. It is less dark, sounds good (still not for the happy tunes) and I have ordered a hand wound bucker to match for the neck.

Sure, I'd also be keen to hear it, I think we should rope Gearhead in and have a bit of a session sometime. I need to spend some quality time on that Strat of his before I can give a complete assessment on it ?

Talk about bugs: that thing is full of surface mount electronics and those are a real pain to work with. I replaced most caps (which is still alright) and some of the psu parts (about sugar grain size). Nightmare. I do hope it works now...
