I'm probably sinning in the eyes of many here. I'm using my motherboard's onboard sound to record my guitars. In my defence, it apparently has 192khz/24bit capabilities. HD audio... The software I'm using is KRISTAL. I have a few problems. Firstly, If I use the "KRISTAL Live In" option, I get an extremely high pitched noise that just gets louder and louder through my speakers. Also, and excuse me if I'm being stupid here, what I tried was to record one track then play that back while trying to record another track over that, so that they're synchronized. The problem is that it takes the sound that's being played back and feeds it into the input channel much louder and distorted (obviously because ov clipping etc.)
How can I overcome these problems????

Your soundcard driver may have a "Hardware monitoring" setting or something similar. Try turn that off. If it doesn't have the setting, you may be forced to get a better interface.

Check that your recording source is either your mic or line in and not wave out.
what could be happening is that your software is recording what you are hearing, instead of what you are playing.
I'm not familiar with the software but I have had the same issue with FL Studio

I just found the solution! Turns out that by muting the 'stereo mix' option in my audio control panel, the sound that is being played doesn't affect the recording at all. Horay!
