Don't worry, you're not the only one. I plugged my amp's output into the mic jack on my pc. Not ideal I think. Maybe there is some trick to it I don't know... Suppose good recording quality is not the main(only) goal of these challenges.
I used to plug my guitar directly into the jack using a little converter, also not ideal. Impedences and stuff, quality of the connections etc. all contribute to crappy sounding stuff ?
I remember I hadn't heard of this whole "external sound card" idea until about a year ago. ?
Next step is to bring in microphones. Will need to figure out how best to combine the signals though, since my interface (a Line6 Guitarport) only has space for one input at a time. The acoustic guitar really sounds very piezo-ish, which meant I spent heaps of time fiddling with the EQ (time well spent I reckon, I learned a bit).
