Looking for Digital Piano

Hi

I'm looking for a digital piano (mid-low end)
It must have: 88-keys full sized and hammer action or weighted keys, midi and/or USB output
I'd also like something with a Rock Organ tone.

The Casio CDP-200 and Yamaha P-85 are what I'm kinda looking at but they don't have a Rock Organ tone.

Any suggestions? Thanks

I'm definitely no keys man but the P85 looks like the thing to have if it comes to piano feel. I don't know if that weighted feel and the 88 keys really are things you want in a rock organ though. Also it will be cumbersome to lug around.

Why don't you get a second hand Yamaha P80 (massively popular stage piano in its heyday, should go for about R5k-6k) and spend the rest on either a MIDI cable and a sound module with Hammond sound or a separate keyboard that does Hammond?

If you want to go the whole hog, I'm looking after a Yamaha Clavinova CVP83S that the owner is interested in selling (he now lives on a yacht). GM/GS soundset IINM. He'll settle for R10K just to get rid of it.

Stay away from Casio - backup is bad.

You should have a look at Kawai digital pianos - not sure about prices, but as instruments (last I checked) they're pretty damn fine. The Kawai agent in Cape Town is Ian Burgess-Simpson: http://www.ianburgess-simpson.co.za/. He's based in Muizenberg. If nothing else, go check out the showroom & spend a happy couple of hours playing on great pianos! He's obviously going to be biased towards your buying a Kawai (though his first love is actually Steinways), nonetheless he can probably advise you on other keyboard brands and how they compare. He may also have 2nd-hand instruments for sale... ?

Agreed. I have a concert pianist in the family, who uses Ian for everything from regular tunings to 'open-heart surgery' (major re-build) on her Steinways. He has incredibly high standards of workmanship/quality & he and his staff are all a pleasure to deal with. (Hence my suggestion that Speedstar goes & checks out the Kawai showroom - its a treat just seeing the place, let alone trying out all the pianos!)

See if you can find a second hand Roland RD-170. Nice rock organ sound included, including a nice Lesley simulation.

Yes I am. Trying to find more info of this model. What colour is it?
This would be my first digital as I used to have an upright Kawai piano *freaking* 6 years ago, but would like to start playing again. Just that money is a bit tight to buy an upright 8)
Do you know if the Clavinova keys are weighted? Prefer weighted ones.
Will be looking at CLP320 later today, it would help if you can help me compare the 2 models as well...
Not sure if I should ask the rest of questions here or should I "message" you, is there a function here I can "message" u privately? (sorry new to this forum ? )

The Clavinovas have 88 fully weighted keys and a hammer action, so identical to a real piano in that respect. Dark brown rosewood finish.

The CLP320 is a newer model with 128 note polyphony and three pedals (as opposed to 64 and two pedals). A big thing with an instrument this size and weight is where you are - makes no sense to save a little buying one if you have to ship it across the country.
