I bought one of these because I wanted a guitar with a smaller body. And I like the guitar and it is comfortable. I dont know what the effect of the arched is on the sound but it looks grand for me. I think the tuners are not the greatest but hey this is not at all an expensive guitar - I'm thinking I'll just swop them with the tuners on an Ibanez AG75 which I dont play much at all or I'll get some others. Anyway, it has got this: ELECTRONICS: Fishman Presys + - Sonicore P/U. And I dont want it in there becasue I've got a magnetic soundhole pickup which I think is about the best thing since bubblegum. Actually now while I'm talking with you I'm also thinking maybe to mess around with the pickups on that Ibanez and put them on this Cort. Anyway, that's another story.

So, I'm going to whip out the onboard stuff and slap the mag pickup in maybe try and get a more permanent sort of setup for it because I'm getting gatvol of slipping it in all the time. BTW, I had to file down the wooden pickup housing a bit becasue the soundhole on this guitar is quite a bit too small for the pickup I have.

Now, plse dont tell me I'm a sinner or stupid or something. These things I know. Tell me, if you know and if you will, what may be involved here. I will have to put a mirror in the thing to see what's cooking under the bridge I guess. I will have to take out the endpin jack thing and also the top control panel thing. And now also I think that may sort out another little issue becasue this thing has a solid top and so I have these planet waves humidifier things that slip into the strings. With the soundhole pickup in you're going to slip nothing inbetween the strings hey. So maybe the hole in the top where the control panel thing is can accommodate the humidifier?

Other than that, it seems you want to take the humbuckers and associated circuitry out of your Ibanez and somehow fit them to a Cort acoustic guitar. Is that right?

Why not get another soundhole pickup and install it permanently? Something like a Baggs M1 will do nicely - smaller than what you've got right now and therefore will leave more room in the soundhole. Fit that and a stereo output jack and you can blend the sound from the existing pickup and the in-hole pickup.

Make sure that you can file down the wooden housing enough to make it fit before you start.

Reversing a pickup/preamp install is a big job, involving plugging the endpin hole (glue and dowel), fitting a strap button and, most troublesome, filling in the preamp hole. I'd leave the fishman preamp and pick up in, you can just take out the battery and disconnect the wires from the endpin jacksocket. Then you can connect the magnetic pickup to the endpin jacksocket for a semi-permanent install that also keeps the cable out the way.

You could also just upgrade the pickup on the fishman - the Sonicore are cheap coax piezos, but the preamp looks OK, so Just swapping the piezo for a polymer film type (if you can get one) would make a huge improvement to the plugged piezo sound. Otherwise possibly even both pickup and preamp (check preamp size though).

Yip. I want to pull the Ibanez apart and use the pickups. and the tuners. and see what else I can use. I dont think it's impossible!? Maybe not feasible but that shouldnt stop anyone hey?

Yes the Baggs is an option and I've looked at it. But then, what to do with the Ibanez bits is still the question.

If you left the Ibanez in one piece you could flog that to fund the buying of another sound-hole pickup and probably still have some hard-earned dosh left over.

Sound-hole pickups are like any other solution for amplifying acoustics in as much as you really want to have them permanently installed in the guitars that you wish to amplify - which will probably mean having more than one.

You might find it helpful to watch some John Martyn footage - or to just study photos of him playing his Martin in the early 70s. He had a pickup fitted in the sound hole, and something else inside the guitar, with most of the attaching seeming to be some kind of home made bracket and a load of gaffer tape. However technology has moved on just a smidgeon in the meantime.

I did file it down and it fits in good now. Yip I think this is the way to go. ie. conecting the pickup/s to the endpin jacksocket. Think it's going to be some work though but anyway we'll check it. I particuarly want magnetic pickup on this guitar so I dont think I'll go for upgrading the existing stuff. I dont know if I'm going to get too particular about filling the preamp hole. But I want that stuff out of there anyway becasue it hooks on your sleeve when you reach over for something.

So while I was typing my next response you sneaked in. Yes, looked at John Martyn and was one of the sources of inspiration for this exercise. Also Roy rogers got an old Martin 12 fretter with a HB in the soundhole.

As far as the Ibanez is concerned it is up for sale- noone's buying and there's another one for about the same price on the classifieds here as well and it is a model a bump up from mine so I guess it'll go quicker. My nephew wants the Ibanez but expecting me to be plenty benevolent and hey!, that's just not me.
