It really gives you a sense of the relative orbit times, eh? Yeah, Pluto's been downgraded. To be fair, they included Ceres also.

Love that "music of the spheres". And it never sounds discordant. I think Aja posted something similar recently which I've book marked. Maybe this is the direction music will eventually take - random, chaotic. I'm kind of bored with predictability ... (altho this of course has some order ...)

Well this isn't that random. It will repeat - though you may have to wait a while.

There are people who offer random, chaotic music . Though, of course, it has to be experienced live because once a recording is made then nothing is random any more.

I know - but it has a random unstructured feel to it. I seem to listen to this in two ways. The one is to be amazed at how it somehow makes harmonious note collections every now and then I and wait for more ... like a game. The other is to let it just play and be part of life and create a nice ambience. But its more interesting than musack to me altho' perhaps that's all it is...

Ja chaos performances would be interesting. You could have a guy performing 2 notes every now and then - nobody knows when or where - what instrument and sometimes he may perform for 4 days in a row... and even play more or less than two notes ..

I wouldn't be tempted to part with my money, though I'm sure there's some enlightened, progressive performing arts council somewhere who would stump up and present it as a gift to the community.

I do actually understand what you mean Lindsmuse, but Bob's making a point. The orbits are entirely regular - each held to its path by the gravity of the sun in balance with the centrifugal force generated by the speed of the planet moving through space (somebody correct me if I'm being an idiot here).

These bodies in our solar system actually have a time signature - it's just that each bar is so colossally long as to turn our brain into cheese trying to imagine it. ?

So you're quite right that to the ear this music seems chaotic, and it's different and appealing. But when you look as well, you can see that it's based on strict regularity. It's chaotic in the way that three random notes from the middle of a bar of music may seem chaotic.

So it could be written, notated in other words, and people could reproduce it.

But it has the lovely random quality to it. But why i particularly like this is that it's so incredible to think that those ARE the intervals between these inconceivably huge masses and that this can be represented musically. Its true in other words - fact! And that people actually spend the time to conceive of this is also really amazing! If you don't live in a scientific, modern, fast-moving etc community this type of thing is pretty new and interesting ...

I am definitely in a haze. I hang like a Windows PC. It happened this morning in he kitchen, I was supposed to make coffee and my wife found me staring at the cups.

After that I gave a demo on metal (don't laugh) guitar in Brooklyn...when I arrived, I realised my guitar was still at home ?
