Any store will be able to get Celestion, who have a local distributor (Tradelius). Eminence has no local supplier, which means buying online (and with horrendous shipping charges, duties, etc.).

Way to ruin my day Alan. You and your "information". ? Got hold of a Fender SCXD but the stock speaker isn't great, most modders have gone with Eminence but I have to say, the Celestion was the best part of my Marshall...

I'm busy with a little amp project with Karel and I need to source myself a speaker now. I was initially contemplating just getting a Jensen C8R, but I'm starting to lean towards a Weber Sig 8" AlNiCO.

I know you recently ordered from Weber. I've mailed them to get an estimate on the shipping, but I read in your article that there was a bit of a mix-up with shipping costs. Is their shipping based upon weight? Any tips on the ordering process?

Weber estimate shipping, but FedEx won't give them a concrete cost until they have the parcel. Two 12" speakers ultimately cost me $240 shipping, so I'd guesstimate $100 for a single 8".

However, I wouldn't go for the cheapy like the sig series. Shipping remains constant, so it narrows the price difference between the cheaper and the more expensive speakers, making the cheaper speakers less worthwhile.

Otherwise, do your research, search out as many forum posts as possible (and read between the lines with liberal pinches of salt).

So Bothners will able to source the Greenbacks? Yebo can get but say only 2nd week of June.

I've been doing a lot of reading and listing to samples online. If the shipping is going to be around $100 I'll definitely have to reconsider the taking the Sig (the vintage series looks very nice). Based purely on weight your shipping was $240 for 16lbs. A single 8" is only 2lbs in comparison, but I know physical size also plays a role so we'll have to see.

Yebo are probably also getting from Tradelius, so it probably means that the next shipment only arrives in June, regardless of who sells it to you.

Box and packaging adds on a bit too - I think mine totalled about 11kgs.

Wow, that's a fair whack of extra weight... sounds like they package them properly. ? Will keep that in mind.

Would that be it? I have bought stuff from take2 and also just gone thru the purchase process for bigger things to check the impact on the shipping. It always sticks at 30 bucks for dor-dor. Also, someone else on this forum bought a guitar from them and it arrived cool and groovy and he picked up at take2 offices in CT. I'm guessing they get big loads of stuff from US and it all just fits in to the container or whatever.

And I'm already a Take2 customer.... didn't think to check there... Cool. I'm going to play the stock speaker in and see how it goes before going with one of these options. Strong suspicion I'm going to want to change it...

Your powers of guesstimation are most impressive! I got a mail back stating about $100 for shipping.

It's not worth it paying $100 shipping for a $35 speaker. I'm thinking that it might just be easier to get a Jensen C8R. I know that you can get them from Take2, but are there other places that I can try and get one?

I went down this road a while back when I built my amplfier. The only option in this country are Celestions. Ended up with a Greenback which 'm very happy with.

All other makes are not locally represented or the agent does not bring in the guitar loudspeakers as they are regarded as "Too expensive"

Wanted to alert the guys who are interested in Eminence speakers, Electronics 123, which has a branch here in Pretoria, told me they could get drivers in for me quite easily. Was quoted 1.7k on a Red Fang, which seems to me to be a fantastic price! I'm actually thinking that it must be a mistake.. ???

I want two 10 inch Webers, they quoted me $100 in shipping ( the way I understood it, it was for both). As soon as they have stock I'll probably order. I have ordered from them in the past, love the speaker.

Careful - they quoted me $120 for two 12" speakers and it actually ended up costing $240. Great speakers though...
